After announcing a nifty modular charging station yesterday, accessory maker Scosche today announced a new “MagicGrip Charge” wireless charger for in-car use. While there are already a host of wireless car chargers available, Scosche’s MagicGrip is unique in how it secures your device.
Scosche is out today with details on its new BaseLynx modular charging and organization system for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and more. The customizable charging system allows users to configure a solution to their needs with components for Apple Watch, Qi wireless charging for iPhone, as well as wired USB-C and USB-A charging for iPad, and more.
As someone that often carries around a portable battery or two when on-the-go for extended periods of time (because I don’t particularly like the added bulk of using a battery case), this new MagicMount product from Scosche looks very interesting.
A super slim magnetic pad goes on your iPhone, and the battery pack then magnetically attaches to it when needed and connects to your device over a built-in Lightning connector. That gives you the benefits of a battery case by having the portable battery attached to the device, but also allows you to easily remove it once you’ve added enough juice to your device.
The iPhone has easily become the best jukebox in the car with your iTunes library, iTunes Radio, streaming services like Beats Music and Spotify, and great apps for keeping up with podcasts. The iPhone 5 debuted last October and along with it so did the Lightning port. Since its launch there have been few third party accessories created due to Apple’s tight control over the the new technology. Today, the popular consumer electronics and car audio company, Scosche, officially launched their line of Apple approved Lightning accessories. While other companies are already offering official Lightning cables, this launch by Scosche is of particular interest because they are the first to offer both car chargers and wall chargers (5W and 10W) as well as a retractable cable.
Some Apple users have been quick to jump on generic Lightning cables to save a couple bucks, but given what we learned today it seems that the best route is to buy an Apple approved Lightning cable.
