Facebook for iOS updated with comment editing, photos, and more

Facebook for iOS received an update today bringing the ability to edit posts and comments directly from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Previously, this feature was only available from the desktop version of the website. The update also brings another desktop feature: the ability to add photos to comments. All in all, version 6.6 appears to bring the app closer to feature parity with the desktop, but a few of these features like status and comment editing appear to be absent from the iPad app for now. Read the full change log and see examples below:

What’s New in Version 6.6

• Edit your posts and comments, and tap to see all your changes
• Add a photo when you comment
• Express yourself with icons when you post to someone’s timeline (English only)
• Get to privacy shortcuts by tapping the lock by your name in the main menu
• Bug fixes

The update is available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch on the App Store.

  1. What about bringing messages writing back to main app FaceBook?!

Except you can’t edit posts and comments. Nothing in the UI allows it. How did they screw this up?

You can only edit posts and comments on the iPhone version. For some reason it’s not enabled on the iPad version.

I updated the post with screen shots of examples. Looks like Ben Winick is correct regarding the iPad version.

Excellent screenshots, but editing a comment is not accomplished in the same way that editing posts is done. To edit a comment, all you have to do is tap on the comment you want to edit and a popup menu will appear giving you the option.

You are correct. I can’t figure out where or how to edit comments or posts on my iPhone 4S. The update didn’t say anything about what gen phones would support it. Wouldn’t think that would matter.

FYI, the mobile web page of FB has been able to edit posts for a while now, and add pictures for a few months approx.

The update on the iPhone 4S doesn’t seem to have the edit option for comments or posts.

does not work on my iphone 5s but does on my 5, both running latest updates of both the app and ios 7.03
