Bentley again uses iPhones to shoot latest ad, this time using iPhone 6/Plus

Luxury car-maker Bentley last year shot an ad for the Mulsanne (a mere $298,000 to you, Sir) on the iPhone 5s and iPad Air, and has this year upgraded to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Its new ad is for a driving jacket rather than a car, and it has again produced a behind-the-scenes video (below) showing the kit and software used … 

The latest video features four Saville Row tailors, each of which has created a bespoke jacket commissioned by Bentley for a Saville Row Bespoke exhibition in Washington.

The video was shot with a mix of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus phones, and a mix of FiLMiC Pro and Filmakr software for a film-like look. As always with professional films shot with the iPhone, don’t expect to be able to replicate the results at home. Aside from the skill of director Austin Reza and his team, there’s also a lot of steadicam type mounts and pro lenses used.

The behind-the-scenes video opens with a look back at the previous Mulsanne ad before moving onto the Saville Row film.

    What I find interesting about this is….. WHY?
    Why Bentley do this when there are gazillions of easier, better and cheaper dedicated video cameras? A Go Pro for instance or Android LG G2 Phone at 4K comes to mind and then use a proper laptop to edit the audio and video.
    Unless this is a co-production to Promote Apple and Bentley.
    On the other hand this also goes to show how important skill, lighting and camera stabilizers are to shooting great video not just the “camera”.

      HMMMM………………Don’t know much about (read, don’t know anything about) iPhone cameras or MacBookPro laptops, not to mention Final Cut Pro editing software from Apple, it seems! All, best of breed, all from Apple. You can use all the extraneous “other” gear associated with making these films you may need, but it all comes down to the iPhone’s camera. Burberry of London did the same thing last year when they premiered their new clothing collection. There’s NEVER been any mention of Apple paying these companies to use their equipment. As a professional commercial photographer, who now uses an iPhone 6Plus, I can say without doubt, in many ways it rivals my top-end pro camera gear.

      Probably because the apps they are using are only for iOS. Bentley is the customer and they obviously have a outside video production company (Reza & Company) and the video production company is what decides what they use, not the customer. I believe Filmic Pro only works on iOS.

      Some people simply want to use one platform for everything.

      They might not care about 4K since most people don’t have 4K.

    The messages they are sending is get a Toyota Corolla because it will get the job done of going from Point A to point B. In other words the film can be done with a Phone. Bad marketing for Bentley, great marketing for Apple. If I was Bentley I’d be shooting my commercials with Arri’s Alexa, no less, to drive the point

    I didn’t know there was this making off video. It is a very efficient message what Bentley does when it associates its image with the notorious London tailoring and with the iPhone 6. It is all about good taste.
