How to find out which iPhone model you have

Whether you need to figure out which iPhone model you have to check iOS compatibility or are looking to sell it to upgrade to a new one, follow along for how to easily identify which iPhone model you’ve got.

Over the years, the various iPhone models have arrived with a variety of unique attributes, but if you’re not sure certain of them, the different models can be difficult to tell apart.

Apple doesn’t plainly label the iPhone model on its hardware, or even in its software, but finding the model number is the first step.

How to find out which iPhone model you have

  1. Depending on your iPhone, you may find the model number on the back of the device in small print (e.g. A1700)
  2. Otherwise, head to Settings → General → About → Model
  3. Tap it to reveal the model number formatted like “A1865”
  4. Do a quick google search such as “iPhone A1865” or compare it to this list of iPhone models
