After earlier reports claiming that Apple was planning to open a new office of sorts in Hyderabad, India, today the company has confirmed to local publications that it will indeed expand in the area with a new development office planned for later this year. Apple’s statement via a report from The Economic Times is below:
“We’ve been investing to expand our operations in India and are thrilled to have passionate customers and a vibrant developer community across the country,” a spokesperson said.
The project itself will see Apple invest around $25 million and, according to the report from The Economic Times, employ around 4,500 people during construction. The new office will ultimately be home to approximately 150 employees, according to Apple’s statement, most of which will be working on the company’s Maps team.
“We are looking forward to opening a new development office in Hyderabad that will be home to over 150 Apple employees supporting maps development.”
Apple added that the new building will include “space for many contractors who will support our ambitious efforts locally.” The location is said to take up around 250,000 square feet at the Tishman Speyer’s WaveRock properties (pictured above).
Apple is set to start work on the new offices later this year, around the same time it will begin preparations for moving employees into its new Campus 2 headquarters in Cupertino.
In recent months the company has expanded with new facilities in many parts of the world including a number of smaller satellite offices in Sweden, Seattle, and Cambridge, England, to name a few.

Well on the one hand by having more brown people, it’s going to help shut up the leftist crybabies.
From a software engineering perspective, lol. It will be like every H1B shithole producing reams of garbage-tier code. A lot of Silicon Valley nerds that will be committing suicide once they realize that the rest of their career at Apple will be spent fixing garbage tier code inflicted upon them because someone wanted more “vibrant” programmers.
The IT industry is not at all short of brown people – go to any North american conference or office and see them all. so I am not sure how diversity has failed on that score.
And they all ran away from india, because it’s not a very nice place.
But yeah often the contracted IT is very poor quality, it took 3 contractors to achieve what one domestic one did. Out sourcing seems smoke and mirrors when they say it still more efficient.
suchakunt you are an idiot and I fixed your name.
Nice insult dipshit. Why are you so butthurt? It is well known in software that Indian outsource coders produce terrible code.
Is the truth too rough for you Prajeet? Will a trip to your favorite designated shitting street help? Poo goes in the loo, Prajeet.
Huge mistake and will cheapen the brand.
India is unbelievably corrupt and massively over burdened with red tape to serve that corruption. Their clever people leave in droves every single day because it is so dirty, hopeless, polluted far worse than China – oh and did I say corrupt? Since all their clever ones leave, what’s left there but the dirt and corruption?
No quality goods come out of India. None what so ever. It’s a cheap labor location, with massive domestic problems and usually the gov’t doesn’t let foreign enterprise in without giving up some cash to a handful of ever so helpful officials. Look at how difficult it has been to open up retail stores, all to protect gov’t cronies.
Huge mistake for Apple. It may have a lot of people, but like Russia, most of them still poop in the field and live off a few pennies.
Get a life!
Already got one and an opinion that’s just as valid as anyone else’s. Having lived there, and seeing how many leave, they would ask you to get a life since you obviously don’t know what you talk about.
Made in India is the opposite of a mark of quality. Not what Apple dreams are made of. This is a deal to gain entry to the market there, it’s a payback deal, as all of the Indian talent they needed are already in CA.
Stop hallucinating! Your opinion isn’t merely an opinion but it has a hint of racism as well. If all talented Indians are in the US, then how come the US companies are shipping jobs to India and why India is the fastest growing economy?
Ignorance sure goes a long way for someone like you.
What is ignorance? I have lived and worked in India. Ask any Indian why they leave. They leave in hordes, the emigration is massive and the brightest of course will be the ones moving first as they have more opportunity.
So if anyone is ignorant it seems to be you. This is nothing but an Apple deal with the govt to gain market access, which is exactly how India operates.
It is not like western countries. Their growth is hampered by the massive restriction on foreign business.
Considering that the employees will be primarily working on maps, translation: Taking photos and putting in local information, their contribution to the over all Apple ecosystem is going to be pretty low key to say the least.
Buh bye to quality. Which has steadily gotten worse. It’s all about margins now.
