Apple’s 2015 Back to School deal: free Beats Solo2 headphones with Mac purchase

Apple is today launching its Back to School promotion for 2015. This year, it will give away a free pair of Beats Solo2 headphones with the purchase of an eligible Mac.  Customers must either purchase an iMac, MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, or Mac Pro with education pricing to qualify, including build-to-order configurations. The Mac mini does not participate in the deal.

Alternatively, customers can upgrade for an additional $100 to a pair of wireless Beats Solo2 headphones, rather than the usual $299 price. The announcement is not yet being advertised on Apple.com apart from a small mention on its rebates page. It is surprising that there appears to be no Back to School promotion for iPads this year, despite Apple pushing the tablet into education markets.

In previous years, Apple has given away gift cards alongside purchases of eligible products like Macs and iPads. This is the first year the promotion includes a Beats product as the ‘free gift’. For instance, last year a Mac purchase would get you a $100 gift card and a purchase of an iPhone or iPad would get you a free $50 gift card.

You can read the full terms and conditions for Apple’s current Back to School deal here. The offer runs from today through September 18th at Apple retail sales. Online sales are eligible for the promotion from August 6th until September 18th.

Let’s introduce a MacBook which totally relies on wireless connections but don’t give out the beats 2 wireless headphones, because #applelogic and don’t introduce the space gray , silver and gold to the wired beats solo 2.

Not siding with Apple here but the new MacBook has a headphones port.

If you wanna go wireless, then they do offer the $100 upgrade to the wireless headphones. Agree it’s not a great promotion though.

It is better than nothing!!! Most computer companies you are lucky to get an educational discount period. Her you get money off the computer plus a free pair of headphones. Anybody that doesn’t want their can let me know and I will send them my address and some money for shipping and you can send them here.

Yeah Dell is giving away 32″ tvs. Which would be more useful in a new dorm room: that, or overpriced headphones, Pauly?

    • alexkaloostian - 9 years ago

Well, not totally. it has a USB port and a headphone jack, so, you’re using the word “totally” wrong. Also, its not the only computer they make, but I guess people will whine about ANYTHING.

      • irelandjnr - 9 years ago

You do realise you are also whining right?

      • alexkaloostian - 9 years ago

        nnnnnnnnnnnnn…..nnnnn….nnnnnope?

      • Jon Ramirez - 9 years ago

well you also have to be a dumbass to buy the :new and improved” macbook! why you may ask. just look at it it has no fan! that mean it going to suck ass!but beat sound some what good!

    • acslater017 - 9 years ago

      1) The MacBook has a headphone jack.

      2) Previous promotIons were $50 and $100. The wireless Beats cost $300.

      I don’t think it’s Apple that’s demonstrating a logic problem here…

      • paulywalnuts23 - 9 years ago

Technically you are only getting the wired version which is 199 but 200 in free head phones is pretty good to me. I know I will use them and my step daughter is going to love them..

Damn, I was going to say “in before someone complains about free stuff” but I missed my window.

What a stupid deal. Students have been buying Macs when there was back to school deal with 100$ gift card because they could be able to save a little more. Now they are giving out free headphones and most of us don’t need it. Of course it’s better than nothing… but not better than anything else.

    • Andrew Messenger - 9 years ago

don’t take them then. it’s not that serious.

    • paulywalnuts23 - 9 years ago

Would you like some cheese with that whine??

      • mahmudf2014 - 9 years ago

What made you think of that?

    • acslater017 - 9 years ago

Meh. In the age of streaming music and pre-bundled iWork, $199 worth of stylish hardware is probably more appealing to your typical college student today than an App Store or iTunes gift card.

      • Jassi Sikand - 9 years ago

Regrettably, this is true. Personally I’d take the Store gift card, but I can totally see the headphones being more popular.

    • So sell them then? I just can’t get my head around how people can argue about FREE stuff!

    • cash907 - 9 years ago

Do what I did back when they used to give out free iPods: eBay them. It’s not full cash value, but it’s pretty close.

Also those of you that just purchased a qualifying Mac in the past month can still get your headphones if you want them. I just bought a Macbook at the beginning of August and helped a friend get a Macbook Air a week ago and I just called Apple and they took care of getting me the headphones on both orders.

    • whatyoutalkingboutwillis - 9 years ago

But it’s still July where I live so I don’t think I’ll be so lucky

      • Zachary Land - 9 years ago

I bought my Macbook Pro on July 14th and just got off the phone with Apple. They have added the headphones to my order and I can now see them attached to my order on their website.

      • paulywalnuts23 - 9 years ago

        Sorry should have been July..

    • charismatron - 9 years ago

Hey, piece of advice: when you make a typo–try using the edit func . . . wait, what? You mean there’s still no–there’s STILL NO EDIT FUNCTION up in here?

      Dayum. :)

  5. Nathan Marchant - 9 years ago

Is this available in the UK or is its just a US thing

  6. I was waiting for this promotion to get a iTunes or Apple gift card with my purchase of a MacBook Pro! Disappointed that they changed it to Beats headphones. Better than nothing but super disappointed since I was I was looking forward to it…

  7. Debbie Vick - 9 years ago

Can you receive the free headphones at any store or is it only good for Apple stores?

  8. Jon Ramirez - 9 years ago

    screw that
