The Apple Beta Software Program allows Apple device users to try out upcoming releases of the company’s iOS operating system for iPhone, iPad, and iPods, and the macOS operating system for Macs.

Apple’s latest public beta for the program is scheduled for launch July 7, 2016 for upcoming iOS 10 and macOS Sierra releases set for public release this fall.

The company released its first beta version of iOS 10 and macOS Sierra 10.12 to developers through its separate Apple Developer Program following an unveiling at its WWDC 2016 developer conference in June, 2016. It followed that up with iOS 10 Beta 2 and macOS Sierra Beta 2 released to developers on July 5, 2016.

iOS 10

  1. Make a back-up.
  2. Download Apple’s configuration profile from beta.apple.com/profile.
  3. You’ll be taken automatically to update to the iOS 10 beta in Settings (Settings > General > Software Update).
  4. Follow on-screen instructions and agree to Apple’s terms and conditions to start the installation.

macOS Sierra

  1. Make a back-up.
  2. Download Apple’s Public Beta Access Utility.
  3. Download the public beta from the Mac App Store under the “Updates” pane.

Apple looks to expand beta testing of iOS 15 as stable release nears

Last month, Apple launched the Beta Software Program for all users who want to preview iOS 15, iPadOS 15, macOS 12 Monterey, watchOS 8, and tvOS 15. Now, the the company is looking to expand beta testers and is sending emails to those subscribed to the beta program to try out its latest public betas.

Update: macOS Sierra Public Beta 1 is now live.


Apple is releasing the first macOS Sierra public beta today for anyone wanting to test drive Siri on the Mac or any of the other new features included. Previously, macOS 10.12 has only been available to registered developers with access to a paid account; the public beta program is a free alternative that allows non-developers to test Apple’s latest software updates before their general release.

Apple releasing first iOS 10 public beta for non-developer testers today [U: Now available]

Update: iOS 10 Public Beta 1 is now live. It features the same build version (14A5297c) as iOS 10 Developer Beta 2.


Following the latest iOS 10 beta for registered developers, Apple is releasing the very first iOS 10 public beta for non-developers to test on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch today. Back in mid-June at WWDC 2016, Apple first promised iOS 10 would hit public beta status sometime in July. The iOS 10 public beta will bring new features including a redesigned Apple Music app, an overhauled Messages experience, and much more.
