The Livestream app has been updated today with a couple of new features, including bug fixes for iOS 8. The headline change however is that the app has added integration with GoPro Hero cameras. This means you can now stream straight to the web whilst in the midst of action.
Effectively, the iPhone acts as a network hub, connecting the GoPro camera to the Internet. The GoPro connects to the phone wirelessly, so the iPhone can just be left in a pocket — like a wireless hotspot. The app handles the uploading of the video in realtime.
Apple’s Campus 2 project continues to make strides with the latest drone video (below) showing the majority of the foundation completed on the massive structure, which Apple CEO Tim Cook has called the ‘Greenest in the World’. You can see the front 2/3rds of the structure is now cemented in with the rear third still dirt and subterranean walls also built along the sides.
The controversial structure which will house 12,000 staff in 2.8M square feet on 176 acres and is estimated to be completed in 2016. Interestingly, even though Apple is covering the construction site with a high green wall, it is updating the 3D flyover of the location in Apple Maps somewhat frequently. The latest looks like it was taken earlier this summer.
Getting smooth handheld video as you pan around isn’t easy, and professional Steadicam solutions run to four figures and up – perhaps just a little OTT for an iPhone (though Apple doubtless used them).
But the iPhone has a very capable camera, and the StayblCam is a $75 device designed to give you some of the benefits of a Steadicam at a rather more iPhone-friendly price. Available for pre-order now for delivery in September/October, I tried out a prototype to see how well it performs … Expand Expanding Close

There are more than a few hardware camera kits and peripherals on the market that extend the capabilities of the iPhone’s built-in cam. We recently reviewed the Olloclip camera lens kit that provides three external lenses for iPhone 4S. Today we introduce you to another that has just been announced by Mophie and combos with a dedicated companion app for managing and sharing footage. According to Mophie, the goal of its new action sports “Outride” camera kit, which integrates a wide-angle lens with 170 degrees viewing angles and a waterproof, impact resistant casing, is to eliminate “the need for a dedicated device such as a GoPro or Contour camera.” The kit will also include several custom, quick-release mounts for attaching the device to a variety of sports equipment and capturing footage at various angles.
To go along with the camera kit, Mophie will also launch the Outride iOS app that provides users with a profile and the ability to capture and share footage with other users: Expand Expanding Close
