NAB Show 2019: Mobile video editing workflows improve w/ big LumaFusion, Filmic Pro, and Gnarbox updates

At this year’s NAB Show in Las Vegas, mobile video editing gained even more cohesiveness and traction. In previous years I felt like there was a push to legitimize mobile video editing, but this year it’s not even a question as to whether such workflows make sense for many iPad users.

The central hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center featured the likes of LumaFusion, Filmic Pro, and Gnarbox — companies that are all heavily involved with mobile video editing workflows. In this post we’ll take a look at some of their current and future contributions to this space as highlighted at NAB Show 2019.

NAB still believes iPhones should work with FM radio after Apple says it’s not possible

Both the National Association of Broadcasters and the Federal Communications Commission have been pushing Apple on making the iPhone work with FM radio during natural disasters and emergencies, although Apple says it’s not even possible with newer iPhones. The NAB isn’t backing down from its position, however, and it’s using the now discontinued iPod nano (and Tim Cook’s hometown) to bolster its argument.

Adobe updates Creative Cloud video tools for pros ahead of NAB 2017

Adobe is announcing several new updates to its pro video tools in its Creative Cloud suite ahead of the National Association of Broadcasters Show. NAB 2017 kicks off on Saturday and runs through Thursday, and Adobe is releasing new features for filmmakers and video producers including updates for “graphics and titling, animation, polishing audio and sharing assets; support for the latest video formats, such as HDR, VR, and 4K; new integrations with Adobe Stock; and advanced artificial intelligence capabilities powered by Adobe Sensei.”

LaCie launches new ‘2big’ Thunderbolt 3-enabled dock

LaCie, the Seagate-owned company best known for its rugged external drives, has developed a Thunderbolt 3-enabled dock. The just-announced product, which debuts at this year’s NAB Show in Las Vegas, is officially titled the 2big Dock Thunderbolt 3, and it looks to be the most compelling Thunderbolt 3 dock thus far.

Lacie, Promise, and CalDigit introduce new Thunderbolt 3-enabled hardware at NAB 2016

The National Association of Broadcaster’s trade show in Las Vegas is in full swing, and several prominent hardware makers have unveiled new Thunderbolt 3-equipped tools. Although there are no current products in Apple’s lineup that support Thunderbolt 3, it’s widely assumed that such hardware, made possible by Intel’s Skylake microarchitecture, is in the pipeline.

The folks over at Lacie, Promise, and CalDigit have all revealed new Thunderbolt 3 products at NAB 2016, bringing high bandwidth and high-capacity storage solutions to market.

Avid announces Pro Tools 11 & new creative tools alongside first iOS-compatible interfaces

With NAB kicking into full gear today, Avid has announced the latest version of its industry standard digital audio workstation with the launch of Pro Tools 11 alongside its first iOS compatible portable audio interfaces and much more.

Perhaps the biggest Apple related announcement for Avid today is the launch of its first two audio interfaces with direct support for iOS devices. There are many audio interfaces for iPad and iPhone (we’ve reviewed some), but this is the first time Avid is including a USB port and direct support for iPad with its high-quality I/O and Pro Tools software…
