Photos of physical mockups and various parts for the upcoming iPhone 6 have been leaking out an almost weekly basis over the course of the past several weeks. However, actual parts for the display cover for the larger phone have yet to leak out. Today, Sonny Dickson sent us several photos of purported display glass covers in both black and white variations for the 4.7-inch iPhone. Apple is also working on an even larger 5.5-inch “phablet” model, but we do not have photos of the screen covers for that model…
The above photo shows a comparison of the size between the 4.7-inch display and the 4-inch screen on the iPhone 5s/5c/5. We previously posted images of 5.5-inch iPhone screen backlighting components. The images do not indicate any breakthrough new features for the next-generation iPhone, but the availability of these parts indicates that the new iPhone is nearing mass-production ahead of a launch this fall. A new hole appears to the left of the ear speaker, but it is unclear if this is a re-located FaceTime front camera or a proximity sensor. The variation in port location from part-to-part could be due to production of parts still being in early stages. It is possible some pieces were produced earlier or later than others. The edges also appear to be slightly curved.
In addition to a bigger screen, the new iPhones will include a thiner and rounder metal case, new sensors, improved cameras, and a more efficient A8 processor. A sapphire crystal display cover has also been rumored for the larger-screened version.
Below is a massive gallery of more black vs. white iPhone 6 4.7-inch display cover photos (Click images for larger):

Looks like slightly curved glass!

Curved edges like the Nexus 4 has would be GREAT! Since edge swiping is such a great UI gesture in iOS 7/8, this will definitely integrate nicer with the hardware. And those bezels, at least on the sides, are tiny! Overall, if this is the 4.7″, then it won’t be all that much larger than the 5s. Hopefully these are legit now, haha.

Is it my imagination or do the covers have a gentle curve to them at the edges? Perhaps the iPhone 6 will more seamlessly transition between front and side?

It definitely does seem that way … considering how the light hits the display covers in that first picture. Can’t wait to see what these look like when they are released.

I think I see a bevel too. And the gap above and below the home button seems reduced. Both details are welcome.

Chin size looks to be exactly the same as the 5/5s. Forehead size seems a little shorter than the 5/5s, say by 10-15% … maximum.
IOW, Jay Leno + a trimmer Frankenstein.

@spiralynth, are you blind? The two fronts are side by side. Look at the bottom of the home button cutaway to the bottom edge on both “devices”. The front of the 6 covers a shorter distance. Just look at it. Then one would assume the top is shorter for symmetry.

looking at the shadows/highlights the glass seems rounded. So the curve allready starts at the screen. Cool!

Yup, the curve seems to complete the curve where the frame/body leaves off (looking at the June 8th 9to5 high-res images). Today’s earlier report mentioned the display would curve to follow the same curves as the body. This seems to support that.

Well, the display isn’t curved, the glass is. But whatevs.

Well yeah but curving the display at only the edges would be beyond idiotic.

More of a graduated bevel than a curve.

Indeed.

Reblogged this on Taste of Apple and commented:
This lines up with earlier rumors. That glass looks curved at the edges and it seems real enough. I can’t wait to see the final product. I think this year is going to be a very special year for the iPhone.

really liking the look of this.
And now I see a slight charm (maybe not a preference) to the white. hmmm

All those pictures and they didn’t take a single one of it laying on a table looking at it straight from the side to actually see how beveled the edges are? Embarrassing.

or any mentions of material?! All this talk of sapphire etc. nuts
try and scratch it!

It looks promising. That tapered edge on the screen following the curve of the metallic shell could look very sexy and elegant.

Umm…one big oversight people. Since when did the iPhone have a cutout hole for the front facing camera? #justsaying

since the iphone 4?

nope.. there’s no hole in the glass where the front facing camera lays. it’s under the glass. no holes.

no i mean actual physical hole cutouts. take a closer look at the hole for the front facing camera, it’s cut out.

Could that be for a front facing flash?

Is it me or along with the tapered curved shape there’s also a very very thin bevel around the whole thing (seen only on non-blurry closeups)?
Apple has a patent on “integrally trapping a glass insert in a metal bezel using Liquid Metal” that does away with the rubber gasket around the screen.

I’m not saying that liquid metal will be used, but the very thin edges of the curved glass may require a new method to hold it in place.

I’m loving the look here very sharp. Better then many of the dummy models being shown. I wanna see the back I can’t see those two huge plastic lines being there. Stick with the back of the iphone 5/5s. I hope the 4.7 and 5.5 are exactly same but for screen size. I prefer to go to 4.7 but I don’t want to sacrifice useful features and 5.5 just seems so large to keep in your pocket.

Curved glass seems like a neat concept…but it doesn’t seem very practical. Unless Apple’s using sapphire glass – or some form of hardened glass – we’re going to see potential for scratching on the leading edges of the surface. Curves like these would make the glass more fragile, so if the unit is dropped, we could see a crack form from a chip in the glass.
I’ve also become a fan of hardened glass screen protectors (as opposed to the tacky film-type screen protectors, or plastic overlays), and the curvature may make for a harder edge-to-edge fit. Although, if a hardened glass screen protector were to fit the curvature, it would make for an easier and nearly foolproof installation.

Absolutely love these pictures. Can’t wait until the final product. I think Apple will make a huge comeback this fall. My only problem with the pictures of the black glass is that it appears to me that they moved the front facing camera to the side again? I’m not sure, but like I said, really stoked about the iPhone 6!

Who designated a 5.5″ screen a phablet?
This seems to be an unnecessary swipe at Samsung for giving consumers what they want and what Apple has yet to deliver.

IMO the line is drawn when it is no longer pocketable and ventures Into small tablet territory. “Phablet” isn’t necessarily perjorativre, it just means phone-tablet.

I want to see a nice large iPhone that would be right between the size of an iPhone 5S and an iPad Mini. I think 6 inch phones are really nice.

Love that the huge bezels are still there… That’s sarcasm folks.

All I can say, is that I’m holding on to my 4S until Apple releases it’s larger screen iPhone 6 (Air). This will be quite an investment as I’m curious to see if there will be a storage size change. Possibly not, but would upgrade to 32GB.
