I was recently chatting with someone about what it was like in the early days of Apple’s second act with the iPod, and I mentioned that Mac users had the ultimate flex against PC users: no viruses and no malware. This was when PC users could get a virus from simply breathing in the wrong direction. The general argument from the mainstream at the time was that once Macs became popular, they’d be filled with viruses as well. The Mac became popular (especially at work), and the mass virus attacks never arrived. So that begs the question of 2024: Do you need malware protection on macOS at work?

Now that Apple’s Vision Pro has been out a few months (as well as device management support), I wanted to put out a longer form article on my thoughts about it as an enterprise product. This opinion has nothing to do with how I think about it as a consumer product, though. Apple products cross over both industries. As an example, I have a lot of ways that Apple TV could be improved for the enterprise, but that has nothing to do with its usefulness at home. Let’s dive in!

It’s that magical time of year when the sun is shining, the grass is growing, and flowers bloom. It’s almost time for near-perfect weather. Spring generally brings plenty of showers as well. It won’t be long until it’s the dog days of summer where it’s 95 degrees, full sun, and not a raindrop in sight, though. I’ve generally opposed professionally installed irrigation systems because of the maintenance, though. A few weeks ago, an IT manager I know called me out of the blue to chat. iOS 17.4 has been out in the wild for a few days, and something I’ll never get used to with Apple is that it brings some new features for a mid-cycle release. For IT managers who manage Apple fleets, several new features are worth paying attention to. Let’s dive into what’s new with iOS 17.4 for the enteprise.

I’ve been a big proponent of HomeKit cameras built into flood lights as they eliminate the need to get an additional wire or rely on batteries. Sometimes, you want to put a camera somewhere that isn’t easy to wire. HomeKit battery cameras have come a long way in terms of reliability, though.
