GymKit makes the gym sync with Apple Watch

So here’s a cool thing. Yesterday, I rejoined my old gym at the YMCA. It’s $64/month instead of $10/month at Planet Fitness, but that includes two hours of childcare – must-have for a single parent.

Anyway, it also has GymKit equipment. As an Apple nerd first and a person who wants to workout second, GymKit equipment is super encouraging. For everyone else with an Apple Watch, it’s the best way to sync up workout data, like heart rate, distance, and calories, that might not otherwise be available or accurate.

Apple launches new GymKit certification app to spur adoption and improve stability

Apple’s GymKit platform for pairing your Apple Watch to gym equipment has slowly expanded since it first launched in 2017. It’s been a gradual process and one that has happened without much fanfare. Now, in hopes of luring more equipment makers to add GymKit support, Apple has launched a new GymKit Certification Assistant app to streamline the approval process.

Technogym claims first 5,000 GymKit-enabled cardio machines deployed for Apple Watch workouts

As part of the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association’s annual conference, Technogym is touting a new number for how many Apple GymKit-enabled cardio machines the company has deployed: over 5000. GymKit lets users instantly sync workout data between fitness equipment and Apple Watch to provide the most accurate readings.

GymKit launch continues with Virgin Active gym in London now supporting Apple Watch syncing

Last month we saw the first fitness club to deploy Apple’s GymKit technology pop up around the globe in Australia, and this week the Apple Watch workout syncing feature has gone live in the UK.

Metro reports that the Mansion House Virgin Active gym in London now offers exercise machines that work with Apple’s GymKit feature which lets you sync workout data between the machine and Apple Watch. In the piece, Apple’s fitness chief Jay Blahnik suggests we may see even more GymKit-compatible machines soon…
