Although most users have likely installed OS X 10.9.2 by now, after its release late last month, Apple is providing a reminder to those who haven’t.
Laggards like myself who are still running OS X 10.9.1 have begun to see notifications like the one below over the past day, pushing the critical update which included a fix for the well-publicized SSL bug found in both iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks.
It’s both in Apple’s best interest and your own for everyone to update to 10.9.2, so it’s no real surprise that Apple is pushing this update so aggressively.

Considering the seriousness of the issue they should.
And yet, you haven’t, Mr. Steeber (or hadn’t until today, I presume). Just sayin’.
That is very strange update. Since I see that I have installed 10.9.2 on March16 already, and now it happened again. Same update. You can see my update history using this link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/n6sfizx7161h0h2/Screen%20Shot%202014-03-20%20at%2003.35.13.png
It’s not an update. Just a reminder for those that haven’t installed 10.9.2 yet.
But unfortunately, if one was to initiate the “Critical Security Update” it would then force their computer into an installation of 10.9.2, whether they wanted to or not. Security updates historically haven’t forced a user to update the OS.
This is a major annoyance for me, as I use my system for work and don’t update until the OS is qualified to work with my software.
So right now I’ve got this popup window on my screen to install OSX 10.9.2 with only one button – Restart.
“click restart to complete the installation”
—Anyone know the name of this process so I can kill it and continue using 10.9.1 until I’m ready to update?
It was strange after i updated my mac, everytime i scroll it seems to be laggy.
How long did this update take for people? Mine has been installing “1 item” for the better part of the last 3 hours.
Same here. “Installing 1 item…” For quite some time now. Saw that many users experienced similar issues and simply manually restarted and are fine, though of course… Dread looms!
Detech’d the same thing is happening to me & it’s still going after about 5 hours. Have lost a days work.
Mine has been going for an hour, did yours eventually work?
Did this happen to anyone else? Well, my husband updated his MacBook Pro because of this Critical Security Update notice that never went away his whole memory got erased as if he was starting his computer from day one. He had to take it in to restore his memory. I’m scared to do the update on mine so I don’t lose everything. Then pay someone to bring it back.
I ran 3 updates that took a day to install and used 15gb of broadband usage in one day . I’m lost as to how files of 75mb and 758mb create such a usage . Any advice about settings etc appreciated
