HomeKit has become a powerful platform, with Apple consistently enhancing its features while staying true to its privacy-first approach. They’ve even contributed to the Matter standard, expanding what the Home app can do. But there’s a big problem we need to address: HomeKit Secure Video. Vendors are largely ignoring it, and while this isn’t entirely Apple’s fault, it’s a problem they need to solve.

No more struggling with short cables or dealing with unnecessary clutter from overly long ones.

One reason I might consider upgrading to the new fourth-generation Google Nest Learning Thermostat is its built-in Matter support. In practice, however, the Matter integration appears to be pretty lackluster. My favorite HomeKit bridge, the Starling Home Hub, has just released a new firmware update that deepens the new Nest’s integration with Matter.

You’ll notice some common trends if you search for MagSafe docks on Amazon. A lot of the devices look very similar. It’s not a bad thing in a lot of ways. The job of a MagSafe dock is simple: keep all your devices charged in a way that keeps cables at a minimum. A 9to5Mac reader (Andrisani & Sons Woodworking) took a different approach. What if…..we took a fresh approach to a great MagSafe dock? Let’s look at a wooden stand that works great with Apple’s MagSafe Charger.

One of the headline announcements from WWDC was the upcoming release of Apple Intelligence. True to form, Apple is putting its own spin on “AI” and rethinking how AI should work to maximize the power of the devices while also protecting user privacy. The big question is: what does it mean for IT teams?
HomeKit light bulbs offer both functionality and convenience. They’ve come down in cost in recent years while also getting much more reliable thanks to technology like Thread and Matter. These smart lighting solutions integrate seamlessly with HomeKit, enabling you to control your home lighting through Siri, the Home app, or Scenes/Automation. Beyond just lights, HomeKit light bulbs enhance energy efficiency, improve security, and create customized lighting environments to suit various activities and moods (think dimming as the night goes on). This week, I am looking at the mujoy Smart Light Bulbs.
The 3-in-1 charging dock has become the standard in recent years as folks look for ways to keep all of their devices charged. What if you don’t wear an Apple Watch (or charge it at your desk)? You end up with extra bulk for a device you don’t have. That’s one reason I am a fan of the Spigen ArcField MagSafe Charging Stand as it focuses only on charging your iPhone and AirPods.

Since ChatGPT launched in late 2022, ‘AI is taking over the world’ is all you’ve seen around the news cycle, but like every new technology, there is a period where the hype ends and everything comes back to reality. A new IT survey for small and medium-size enterprises shows that AI fatigue exists among IT teams.
If you’re starting from zero on a smart home, it can look daunting and expensive as you consider upgrading all of the rooms in your house. I’ve found that starting with a few smart outlet adaptors is the best (and most economical way) to start, as you can upgrade your lamps and a few dumb appliances for under $50. This week, I am looking at the TP-Link Tapo P125 4-pack of HomeKit enabled outlet adaptors.
Keeping all your Apple devices charged in a simple way that doesn’t require multiple chargers is the goal of every desk and nightstand. There are countless options for accomplishing this goal, but what if you want to keep the cost down? Dashlane has just published a report of the top 20 fastest-growing sites driving passkey adoption.
