WWDC has come and gone, and we now focus on a summer of unstable beta device usage as we prepare for Apple’s latest iOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS, and visionOS updates. Of course, with new major versions of Apple’s software come the latest updates to Apple device management. If you manage Apple devices at work, here’s a rundown of what to expect this fall.

When looking to automate your home, a lot of the hype revolves around motion sensors and other devices, but I believe HomeKit door sensors are still some of the best devices to add to your Home app-backed home. I love the Onvis smart door and window sensor, as the device supports Thread technology for a robust smart home.

In this episode of Apple @ Work, I talk with Alcyr Araujo from Mosyle about Apple’s WWDC announcements that affect Apple IT teams.

Car mounts for MagSafe are my favorite use case for wireless charging and Apple’s implementation. Thinking about going back to actually “docking” my iPhone in my car feels like going back to 2010. The ability to quickly snap your iPhone to a charger in your car for a quick top-off is a great use case for MagSafe. Today, I am looking at the new PITAKA MagEZ MagSafe car mount.

Ever since Apple wrapped up its WWDC keynote, I’ve seen a continuous stream of posts on X, blogs, etc, about how ‘1Password has been Sherlocked’ by Apple’s dedicated password manager app in iOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and iPadOS 18. I am here to set the record straight: if you think 1Password is competing with Apple as a password manager app for consumers, you haven’t been paying attention to what the company offers today.

Temperature tracking has long been one of my favorite aspects of HomeKit. Understanding how the temperature can vary in different parts of my house helped me decide where to use stand-alone fans and adjust our HVAC schedule. Meross recently released a new solar-powered temperature sensor that pairs nicely with HomeKit.

In this episode of Apple @ Work, I talk with Apu Pavithran from Hexnode about the potential risks for Apple IT managers when it comes to sideloading apps on iOS.

Finding the right way to keep all of your devices charged can result in countless cables running everywhere or a massive dock the size of the Titanic. ZENS, which offers countless options for keeping your devices charged, recently shipped a new 4-in-1 MagSafe + Watch Wireless Charging Station that’s extremely compact for the amount of power it can output.

Big part up front: Software update fatigue is real for consumers and business users. New features, security updates, and regular maintenance means something is updated almost daily. Browsers are seeing rapid enhancement, and security concerns mean that updates for every app and the operation systems need frequent updates. So, how do we deal with fixing the experience?

I’ve been using Abode as my security system for over four years at this point. Even when I built a new house in 2022, I decided to choose Abode once again despite being able to pick from anything. It strikes a really nice balance between ease of use, strong technology, and reliability. The products are affordable, and the monitoring plan works great. Because the company has a UL-certified monitoring station. Abode recently released a new Abode Lock & Keypad smart lock, and I’ve had a little time to integrate it into the Abode ecosystem to see how it works.

In this episode of Apple @ Work, I talk with Jason Dettbarn from Addigy about their new compliance tools and a WWDC preview discussion around platform SSO and on-device AI.

I recently picked up UGREEN’s new power banks, which deserved a complete write-up as I’ve spent some time with them. Although they lack MagSafe compatibility (which is the only flaw), they might be one of the best options for travelers looking to charge all of their devices (laptops included).

I’ve never been the type to want to travel with a portable router in my bag. Dealing with the complexity of connecting to various networks along with the fact that many hotels have moved away from ethernet to a Wi-Fi-only experience. That is until I started using the AirCove Go. It’s now a permanent fixture in my travel bag.

A few weeks ago, Aqara was in the news with the release of its new P2 motion sensor. I am a big fan of motion sensors for smart homes as they allow for some pretty rad automations based on who’s in a certain room and when. They’re generally low-cost enough that you can put them in multiple rooms without breaking the budget. Let’s dive into the new motion sensor and see how it works.

In this episode of Apple @ Work, I talk with Alcyr Araujo about their new MSP program for Apple MSPs.

There’s no sugar coating it: The iPhone’s camera is a drastically better camera for video meetings over the Mac’s webcam. Even as Apple has upgraded the Mac’s webcam in recent years, it still doesn’t hold a candle to the iPhone. Spigen’s O-Mag Webcam Mount allows you to mount your iPhone to your Mac easily.

One of the news stories that has dominated the 2024 news cycle is Apple, the EU, and third-party app stores. We recently published a hands-on with Setapp Mobile, and it’s a trend that I see moving to the rest of the world in the coming years. How will businesses respond?

Aqara’s U100 smart deadbolt lock was an immediate hit when released last year thanks to its low cost and support for Apple home key. Today, Aqara has just released the new Aqara U50 entry-level deadbolt lock, which also retains Apple home key and Matter support.

In this episode of Apple @ Work, I talk with Chris King about her new book, Breaking Through the Silicon Ceiling: How a 20-year-old Single Mother Became the World’s First Female Semiconductor Company CEO.

I am all in on MagSafe Wallets. I am not sure I’ll ever return to a wallet not attached to my iPhone. It’s one less thing to keep track of day to day. They’re also small enough if I didn’t want to leave my iPhone behind, and they fit right in my pocket. I am on a mission to try all of them. Today, I am looking at the Spigen Smart Fold 2 with its strong and durable design.
