It’s too early to call the Vision Pro a success or flop, but to mark six months, I’d like to explore what the device’s success ultimately hinges on. And I think it all comes down to Apple’s own words: ‘spatial computer.’

Today Apple has released new developer betas for its full lineup of software platforms. Joining the latest betas for macOS Sequoia and iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, Apple has released beta 5 for visionOS 2, tvOS 18, and watchOS 11.

When Apple Vision Pro was first unveiled to the world, Apple repeatedly emphasized it was a ‘spatial computer,’ not a VR headset. Demos showed it doing computer-y things, and the press release claimed “Vision Pro enables users to be even more productive.”

Since getting into users’ hands, it’s become clear that Vision Pro isn’t necessarily the best platform for getting things done. But visionOS 2 aims to change that, with two key features that might just make the Vision Pro into an actually useful computer.

One update that won’t be getting a public beta, though? visionOS 2, as Apple’s beta website confirms that the Vision Pro won’t be part of this summer’s public beta cycle.

In addition to iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, Apple has also released new betas for the rest of its operating systems today. That includes watchOS 11 beta 3, visionOS 2 beta 3, and tvOS 18 beta 3.
