As rumors regarding Apple’s AR/VR headset gain traction ahead of an expected release this year, Facebook parent company Meta has reportedly hit a roadblock in its own VR/AR software efforts. According to a new report from The Information, Meta has halted its efforts to build a new software operating system to power its headsets.

Facebook is updating its Messenger Kids app this week with three new features including dark mode and voice effects. Each update is available first on iOS and coming later to Android. Facebook is also introducing a new way to interact with PAC-MAN on its gaming platform.

Facebook, now Meta, has been teasing end-to-end encrypted chat to Messenger and Instagram for quite some time. Now, the company says it won’t happen until “sometime in 2023.” In an opinion article in the Telegraph, the global head of safety at Meta, Antigone Davis, says the company will “protect privacy and prevent harm.”

After Facebook announced this week that the brand that will gather Facebook itself, Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, and more will be called Meta, the company is now changing the footer of its apps to reflect that.
