In all of the hoopla over the new iPhone 6/Plus, T-Mobile in the US and EE in the UK got themselves a pretty big exclusive (for now). T-Mobile has been offering Wifi calling for years but it’s recently come to the iPhone – and with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, gets even better with cell/wifi handover. (T-Mobile partnered with Gogo to enable texting and voicemails on participating airline journeys as well).

Wifi calling, for some, may be the type of feature that makes or breaks a carrier relationship. With it, you can make calls anywhere there is a wifi signal. That means basements, country homes and even foreign countries are all now open to making and receiving calls from your carrier phone number…

iLife/iWork iOS apps to come pre-installed on 64GB and 128GB iPhone 6/6 Plus

You’ll notice a few new apps (and less available storage) on your new iPhone 6 or 6 Plus later this week when you fire it up for the first time. According to an internal Apple Retail training document (seen below), iOS 8 compatible iLife and iWork apps will come pre-installed on iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

This includes iMovie, GarageBand, Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and iTunes U. Owners of the 16GB models of Apple’s newest smartphones will still have access to these apps for free, but they must be downloaded from the App Store manually or via an App Store prompt. It remains unclear as to whether or not GarageBand in-app purchases will also be available at no additional cost.

Just over a year ago, Apple announced that all new iOS devices would be allowed to download these apps for free alongside the release of major updated versions of each app.

Walmart to offer $20 or greater discount on 16GB iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus + $15 gift card on launch day

Walmart, the giant US retailer, often negotiates exclusive price cuts on products that smaller retailers can’t match. Just like last year, it has set its sights on the all new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

According to a report published tonight by CNET, Walmart is set to trim $20 off both of Apple’s new super sized iPhones. That drops the iPhone 6 down to $179 and the iPhone 6 Plus down to $279. Both prices require a two-year commitment with AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint. Also, beginning on Friday, September 12th, Walmart will begin accepting preorders for the iPhone 6. Anyone who preorders through Walmart will also get a free $15 e-gift card. Sam’s Club members will be able to save an additional $2 on both models, which brings their total discount down to $22.

Based on all the information we’ve seen thus far, these price drops only apply to the 16GB iPhone 6 models and only the 4.7-inch variant will be available for preorder. As of right now, the only other noteworthy iPhone 6 deal that we’ve seen is from Radio Shack who is offering a free $50 iTunes gift card with purchases through September 27th.

Your iPhone 5s/5c is officially old hat: Apple Stores now accepting these devices for trade

There’s a pretty good chance that you’re now looking at your iPhone 5c/5s with anger and disgust thanks to yesterday’s iPhone 6 announcement. The good news is that Apple will now accept these models for trade as part of its in-store Reuse and Recycle program. You’ll have to have an Apple Store employee run a trade-in quote on their EasyPay device for a specific value, but you can get a ballpark figure for your device by comparing it to the $310 we know a 16GB iPhone 5s (AT&T locked) is worth.

Although trading your iPhone in at an Apple store is extremely convenient, you should refer to our iPhone 6 trade-in guide if you’re looking to get the most money back. If you have an older iPhone (4/4s) and Verizon is your carrier of choice, then you’ll most likely want to take advantage of this free iPhone 6 trade offer.

Apple isn’t just blowing hot air when they talk about their stores being a vessel to enrich their customers’ lives. Stores play host to summer camp, One to One lessons, Genius Bar troubleshooting appointments, and even special events that explore various art forms.

These events take place at some of Apple’s most prestigious store locations and feature famous actors, musicians, and artists. Past guests include the fashion tycoon Tom Ford, actor Ty Burrell (Modern Family), and platinum selling rap star Kendrick Lamar.

Since these events are only held at a few locations and store size greatly limits the amount of fans that can attend, we thought it would be helpful to remind you that Apple posts video and audio from these events on iTunes for free. The easiest way to keep up with new episodes is to subscribe to each series and follow along with Apple’s Podcasts app: Meet the Filmmaker, Meet the Musician, and Meet the Author.
