SwiftKey today is releasing a major update to the iOS keyboard app that offers up some of the biggest changes since its Microsoft acquisition back in 2016. Changes include a new toolbar to replace the old hub, editable stickers, and more new features promised.

The Financial Times is reporting that Microsoft has purchased popular third-party keyboard maker SwiftKey for $250 million. While SwiftKey is most known for their predictive keyboard, the acquisition is more of an artificial intelligence play for Microsoft.
The Verge has obtained a sneak peak image into what Microsoft’s Word Flow keyboard for iOS may look like once it is officially released. The keyboard will include a one-handed mode that places the keys out in a fan-style layout. The user can still access emoji and word suggestions and even use swipe gestures to type. This differs from the Word Flow keyboard on Windows 10 Mobile where the keys simply shift to one side. The Verge explains that other than that one-handed mode, the rest of Word Flow for iOS is similar to the Windows Phone version.
SwiftKey, the popular third-party keyboard app for iOS, has today been updated with a few changes and tweaks that users of the app will certainly welcome. First off, the update adds a new dynamic theme for the keyboard. Called “Bubble Gum,” this new keyboard design offers light blue keys with pink keys. Every time you tap on it, pick, blue, and yellow bubbles float behind the keyboard.
Bubble Gum is the second “dynamic theme” SwiftKey has introduced on iOS, following “Shooting Stars” earlier this year. “Bubble Gum” is available under the “Design” tab in the app for $1.99.
Today’s SwiftKey update also refreshes the settings screen interface with a completely new design. The company says it’s now “easier than ever” to find information like usage stats and change your keyboard theme.

Since iOS 8, SwiftKey had been able to replace the standard Apple iOS keyboard, and the new version also packs in the complete Emoji keyboard in one package. The custom keyboard maker makes it easier for the well-known scientist, who has motor neurone disease, to predict full words, based on a small sensor activated by a muscle in his cheek.

Prior to the public SDK, support was somewhat limited as it required a private partnership. SwiftKey, a popular Android keyboard option, has arrived on iOS. No, not as a keyboard that you can install to replace Apple’s iOS touchscreen keyboard, but in the form of a free App Store application. The name of the application is SwiftKey Note and it is available on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. More details below:
SwitfKey, the popular Android app that replaces the stock on-screen keyboard with a gesture-based, predictive typing system, will soon arrive in an official iOS app from the same developers. While details are slim, the screenshot above from @evleaks comes with the caption “SwitfKey Note,” which we assume is a note taking app of sorts by looking at the image. Since Apple doesn’t allow users to change the system-wide on-screen keyboard to third-party alternatives like on Android, we assume that the gesture and predictive typing features will be accessible only within the new Note app.
