HomeKit Weekly: Is the Homey Bridge the product Apple should have released instead of supporting Matter?

Homey Bridge

Matter is the new solution to all our smart home compatibility problems, right? That’s what we’ve been told, and that’s what we want to happen, right? Open stands on everything related to technology are preferable, but sometimes, new standards take years to mature. That’s what we’re seeing with Matter. We’re even seeing brands like Wemo back away from Matter support as well. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been testing a product called Homey Bridge, and it’s one of the most interesting smart home concepts I’ve tried in some time.

Wi-Fi is a crucial part of any deployment, whether it’s for an enterprise or a K–12 school. Even the best iPad and Mac deployments can be ruined by poor networking, and Wi-Fi is an integral part of it. While the industry has undergone many changes in recent years through acquisitions and advancements, low-cost providers have emerged as reliable options. Ubiquiti has been the go-to low-cost networking provider for enterprises and schools for years, but there is a new player in the market that is challenging the status quo: TP-Link’s Omada platform. In this blog post, we’ll take a closer look at this powerful platform and explore why it has become a great alternative for enterprise and K–12 Wi-Fi.

When the iPhone was first released in 2007, it was primarily marketed as a consumer device. It quickly became a hit with consumers, but it wasn’t immediately clear how it would fit into the enterprise market. At the time, BlackBerry was the dominant player in the corporate world, and it seemed unlikely that the iPhone would be able to unseat it without changing how it worked. Some CEOs were able to get the Exchange email working with iPhone using IMAP, but Apple lacked the native Exchange support that was required for push email, calendar, and contact syncing.
