A few weeks ago, Apple debuted a new “11 reasons Mac means business” website. As someone who has managed Macs and used them in business, I want to take those reasons from a critical eye to see if they make sense as real reasons to use a Mac at work.

In the final week of my series of looking at some of the critical decisions that Apple has made in the design of its enterprise programs, I want to explore how Apple implemented mobile device management, and why it strikes the balance of not interfering with employees doing their jobs while giving IT the controls they need to secure employees’ devices.

As we continue with our series on Apple’s enterprise security design, I want to look at the Endpoint Security framework. While it’s only a couple of years old, I believe it’s a crucial part of Apple’s enterprise “pitch” in the future.

I’ve been working my way through all of Eve’s products sold in the US, and I am continually amazed by its tight integration with HomeKit and reliable products. If Apple planned on buying a vendor to build first-party HomeKit products, Eve should be at the top of the list. A recent addition to my office was the Eve Room indoor air quality monitor.

Apple’s design for enterprise security strategy has done a lot to quell the frustration with enterprise security. When Apple built the kextless security endpoint, it was saying that employee experience matters. One of the reasons people have always hated their work computers is because they were a pain to use. Truthfully, many Windows environments have so much “bloatware” added to protect the employee from installing things they shouldn’t and verifying compliance that the employees have trouble doing their job. Apple took a different approach with how it implemented security and how it built its MDM protocol. Over the next three weeks, I will take an in-depth look at three of them.

HomeKit surge protectors are a popular way to add HomeKit support to multiple appliances at the same time. Many of them allow you to individually control each outlet using the Home app, Siri, or an automation. This week, I am looking at the Energy Strip as a HomeKit option for power strips and built-in energy monitoring.
