The original watch came in 38mm and 42mm sizes.

The Series 2 Watch was released on September 16th, 2016 along with a Series 1 Watch. The Series 2 included the S2 chip, built-in GPS, and water-proof construction. The Series 1 included the S2, but lacked GPS and waterproofing.

Apple launched international emergency services to every cellular model. Series 5 also brought back ceramic white, and new natural brush and space black titanium models.

KGI: Apple planning wireless headphones to target higher-end than Beats for iPhone 7

Bragi’s “The Headphone” wireless earbuds

Ahead of Apple’s iPhone 7 event tomorrow, the latest supply chain analysis from KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo notes that Apple is developing a Bluetooth-like wireless chip likely to be used in new wireless headphones.

The report follows our own report from earlier this year that Apple was working on cord-free wireless earbuds ahead of its new iPhones, the first expected to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack. KGI adds that the headphones will target a higher-end market than the company’s Beats brand:

New iPhones and Apple Watches coming; here’s how to get the most money for your trade-in

Site default logo image

We know Apple is going to announce the iPhone 7/Plus and an updated Apple Watch next week and that’s really exciting. However, one small downside of the upcoming announcement is the impending drop in value of your soon-to-be-outdated Apple devices, whether they are your daily drivers or an older device that’s been sitting in your desk.

Every year newer models push the older iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks farther and farther down the path of obsolescence. But there’s good news: you still have time to sell your devices and we’ll help you maximize the money you get for them too...

Apple Watch is almost completely sold out ahead of September 7 event

Site default logo image

Update: Every stainless steel model is now completely sold out online.

We noted last month that Apple Watch inventory was shrinking ahead of Apple’s expected fall event, and now it appears that almost all stainless steel Apple Watch models are sold out online and in limited supply in stores. Only one version of the steel Apple Watch is available to order online, and seven of the aluminum Apple Watch Sport models are sold out as well. This could mean a few things for Apple Watch 2 news at Apple’s September 7 ‘iPhone 7’ event.

Corning unveils Gorilla Glass SR+ offering for wearables, possibly headed to the Apple Watch

Site default logo image

Just a month after introducing Gorilla Glass 5 for smartphones, Corning today has introduced Gorilla Glass SR+, its new cover glass for smartwatches. In 2015, Corning announced “Project Phire,” which was said to be its efforts to create a material for wearables that combines the durability of Gorilla Glass with the scratch-resistance level of sapphire. A year later, we have Gorilla Glass SR+ and it’s ready to hit the market now…

Trademark filings indicate iPhone 7, multiple Apple Watch models and ‘AirPods’ wireless headphones on the way

Apple’s September product unveiling event is now confirmed as being held on September 7 at a keynote in San Francisco. Rumors are expecting a new iPhone 7 to be launched, largely resembling an iPhone 6s with dual cameras as a new flagship feature. Russian trademark filings discovered by mobiltelefon.ru confirm that Apple is readying new iPhones with model numbers A1778 and A1784.

The filings also describe a series of new Apple wearable devices, which appear to be different versions of Apple Watch 2 and maybe tweaked Apple Watch 1 hardware too. Most interestingly, it also confirms the existence of ‘AirPods’ – official wireless headphones to be used in tandem with the iPhone 7 …

Apple Watch 2 will need more battery to power GPS, new leak claims 35% increase is coming

Site default logo image

One concern many users have about Apple Watch 2 likely adding an embedded GPS is what impact precise location tracking could have on battery life. The GPS radio would likely only be tapped during outdoor workouts and when using Maps, but a purported parts leak also claims Apple Watch 2 will gain 35% more battery capacity which would help.

Fitbit debuts swim-proof Flex 2 & cardio-focused Charge 2 ahead of GPS-equipped Apple Watch 2

Apple Watch drops below $200 in the US ahead of Apple Watch 2 unveiling

Update: Best Buy looks to be sold out in most areas

Apple Watch prices have been in a relative freefall in recent months with the oft-rumored upgrade expected in the coming weeks. However, we aren’t expecting a sea change upgrade this time around. Three weeks ago, a KGI report noted that the new Apple Watch 2 upgrade would include GPS, better waterproofing and improved performance but retain the same design. Another report last week reaffirmed those claims.

A launch alongside the iPhone 7 next month seems obvious.  Apple, therefore, is likely in a hurry to clear current inventory (indeed shortages are already being seen) ahead of the launch and that takes the form of a $199 price tag on the base model Apple Watch Sport 38mm Space Gray Aluminum Case…

This crazily expensive levitating Apple Watch charger is very silly (but I still want one)

You’re officially the person with everything if you’re seriously planning to lay out $249 on a levitating Apple Watch charger – though Kickstarter backers can get one for slightly less at $199, or $159 if you’re very quick.

Since the Apple Watch itself charges inductively, the designers of the LIFT charger decided to take things one step further by using magnets to suspend the charger above its powered base, allowing it to float freely in mid air …

Report: Apple Watch 2 won’t include cellular, focusing instead on GPS for fitness features

Site default logo image

The Apple Watch 2 may not have a cellular option after all, according to a new Bloomberg report. Back in April, the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple was considering the option for cellular connectivity in the next Apple Watch version — something that I wasn’t sure the watch needed yet — but today’s report says the company has “hit roadblocks in making major changes that would connect its Watch to cellular networks and make it less dependent on the iPhone.”

An insider talks Apple Watch development: engineering versus design; innovation; secrecy

Bob Messerschmidt is in a good position to talk about the development of the Apple Watch. It was his heart-rate sensor startup that Apple bought for use in the Watch, and the company then hired him from 2010 to 2013 to work on the project. An interview with Messerschmidt by FastCo provides a fascinating glimpse into the world of developing a new Apple product.

Of particular interest is the tension between the engineering and design teams, engineers putting forward the best approach from a technical perspective, designers pushing back where that approach conflicts with their knowledge of trends, fashion and user behaviour …

Apple Watch 2 wish list: Fix the basics, double down on fitness tracking

Site default logo image

While we’re all looking forward to seeing new iPhones next month, it’s also possible we’ll get our first look at the second generation Apple Watch during the same Apple event. I still love my Apple Watch, but it’s just plain old in fast-paced technology terms.

Apple introduced the current Apple Watch almost two years ago at its September 2014 event where we also saw the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Remember all the hype? Then Apple gave the Apple Watch stage time once again at its March 2015 event before releasing it the following month. This year Apple could either update the Apple Watch soon or go into the holiday quarter with the same Apple Watch as last year.

I’ve considered the window closed for buying the current Apple Watch for a while now so I’m hoping we see an upgraded Apple Watch 2 in a few weeks. After more than a year with the first generation Apple Watch, there are plenty of improvements I’d love to see as well.

Apple is gifting flag-themed Watch bands to Olympic athletes in Rio, skirting official sponsorship

Apple isn’t an official Olympics sponsor, but it’s managed to still take advantage of the event for its own marketing purposes with limited-edition Apple Watch bands themed with country flag designs. Not only is it selling those watch bands for 14 different country flags to coincide with the Olympics this month, it’s also reportedly giving them away for free to athletes at its Apple Store in Rio (via iphone-ticker.de).

Apple Watch availability continues to deplete ahead of upcoming refresh

Site default logo image

The original Apple Watch was officially released in April of 2015 and instead of fully refreshing the device, Apple has since then introduced a variety of new band and color options. This fall, however, we’re expecting to see a full-on Apple Watch upgrade. Ahead of that expected update, stock of existing models has been depleting gradually over recent weeks.
