That’s because loss of speech ability can occur very suddenly through medical conditions like ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). By the time people realize they need a synthesized voice that sounds like them, it may be too late …

My iOS 17 wish list: FaceMails, expanded Tapbacks, more

I do realize that it is far too late in the year to make a wish list that might get any traction re: things I’d like to see Apple implement into iOS 17, and that’s fine – I don’t care – but I have to document my hopes and dreams as a consumer and Apple loyalist somewhere, and with WWDC happening next month, I remembered that I have ideas. Read on to see what I would love, would absolutely die for, should Apple choose to implement any of the following into any of their products at any point in any future iOS release ever.

Apple’s fight against iPhone sideloading was pointless at best, harmful at worst

iPhone sideloading | iPhone and Mac

Apple put up a lengthy fight against being forced to allow iPhone sideloading – the ability for owners to install apps directly from a developer’s website, in the same way we can a Mac app.

The company even went as far as arguing that Macs weren’t safe from malware because users can download apps directly. But ultimately the battle was pointless, and may even have been harmful …

Gurman: iOS 17 was intended as a bug fix release, but plans changed to include some ‘nice to have’ features

iPadOS 17 compatibility

In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that iOS 17 was originally destined to be a release focused on bug fixes and performance, and not so much new features. (Gurman previously said that work on the Apple Reality headset operating system had taken priority over iOS 17 feature development.)

However, Gurman says that the strategy deviated from the original plan and iOS 17 will now have some notable new features.

iOS 16 seemed to be all about personalization, bringing a more customized user experience and collaboration. They also brought Live Activities and iMessage enhancements like undo send and editing an already sent message. Freeform, the new collaboration app, was introduced as well as a new digital whiteboard to collaborate in real time with other colleagues or students in your class. Even though these were great additions, there are still some features that we want to see in iOS 17 to further improve our iPhone experience. Here is our iOS 17 wishlist!

iOS 17 feature request: New customization options for the App Library

iOS 17 features

The App Library was added to the iPhone’s Home Screen as part of iOS 14’s release. The feature gives users a way to move apps off their Home Screen but keep them on their device, something that wasn’t possible before. The App Library was a big change for the iPhone at the time, but Apple hasn’t made any further changes since then

With iOS 17 this year, I hope Apple decides to expand on the App Library with a few additional customization options.
