Powerbeats Pro

Prepare for your biggest moments with Powerbeats Pro wireless earphones.

See All Stories

Powerbeats Pro Features

They were first discovered by 9to5Mac after the release of iOS 12.2. Hidden in iOS 12.2 were animations and images that showcased Powerbeats without any sort of connecting wire. In terms of design, they’re nearly identical to previous generation, but truly wireless much like AirPods. The earphones support “Hey, Siri”, just like the second-generation AirPods.

Like AirPods and Powerbeats3, the new Pro earphones pair instantly with iPhones and pairing syncs to iCloud-connected devices including iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch without pairing on each device (you can still pair manually with Android). It also has its own Lightning-powered charging case.

Read our review and watch our hands-on video walkthrough for more details.

Purchase Powerbeats Pro

They are available to purchase on Apple.com, in Apple Stores, Amazon, and other retailers for $249.95. They will be available in a total of 8 colors (4 new options launching June 9th). Check out our hands-on with the new 2020 colors. On June 9th, the new colors are Spring Yellow, Cloud Pink, Lava Red, and Glacier Blue. The new colors join Black, Ivory, Navy, and Moss versions, bringing the total color count to eight options.

PowerBeats (4th generation)

The Powerbeats 4 features a slightly sleeker design, which should be more comfortable on the ear, and boast up to 15 hours of battery life.

As we expected prior to the launch, the new Powerbeats incorporates the Apple H1 chip with support for Hey Siri. The Beats logo doubles as a button that can be used to play, pause and advance through tracks similar to the double tab gesture on non-pro AirPods. The button can then be long-pressed to activate Siri.

Powerbeats now use the H1 chip that is also found in second-generation AirPods, Powerbeats Pro, and AirPods Pro, increasing battery life from 12 hours to 15 hours, while enabling ‘Hey Siri’ support. The new Powerbeats also work with Apple’s Audio Sharing feature.

The design is clearly inspired by Powerbeats Pro, using the more modern look with the main difference being the cable connecting each earbud. They are charged via a Lightning cable directly on the headphones.

Features

  • Replaces Powerbeats3 Wireless design with Powerbeats Pro redesign
  • 15 hour battery compared to 12 hour battery with Powerbeats3 Wireless
  • Priced at $149, $50 under $199 Powerbeats3 Wireless
  • Three colors at launch: Red, White, and Black

Purchase

They can be purchased from Apple, Amazon, or Best Buy.

A week with BeatsX: How Apple’s latest W1 earbuds compare to AirPods & Powerbeats3

Site default logo image

Six weeks after the launch of the iPhone 7 I wrote that life without a headphone jack was a confusing mess of adapters and a lack of cohesion between Apple products. That piece, however, was written before W1 earbuds hit the market.

Now, Apple has three pairs of W1 earbuds available and my opinions have done a total 180…

The 9to5Mac team’s favorite wireless headphones for the iPhone 7

Site default logo image

Without a doubt the biggest consumer-facing news from Apple’s September event yesterday was the removal of the iPhone’s headphone jack. This “courageous” move is seen to help push forward wireless audio technology, all the while giving Apple a few more millimeters to work with in the device’s internals.

Not without controversy, this decision does mean leaving a lot of wired headphones in the dust. Not everyone will find the AirPods, expected in October, the default choice and we figured this would be a good time as any to roundup the 9to5Mac team’s opinions on their current favorite pair (or 2) of wireless headphones. Take a look through and be sure to share your current favorite wireless audio options in the comments.

Apple takes $20 off its new wireless Beats Powerbeats2 in Apple Watch colors

Site default logo image

Earlier this week we noted that Apple has refreshed the Beats by Dre wireless Beats Powerbeats 2 earbuds with new colors aimed at Apple Watch Sport users. Today, Apple has updated its Beats headphones website to promote the new line of headphones along with a new price: $179, which is $20 less than the previous price at $199.

With its onboard storage for music and Bluetooth connection, Apple is promoting these headphones as a way to tap into listening to music with the Apple Watch without the need of a connected iPhone. Even with the ties to Apple and the new Apple Watch-centric marketing campaign, the new earphones will still work with other Bluetooth media players.

We noted earlier today on 9to5Toys that some retailers are offering as much as $50 off of the wireless headphones, and Amazon is selling the accessory at various discounted prices ranging from $169 to $189.

Apple releases new PowerBeats2 Wireless headphone colors aimed at Apple Watch Sport users

Site default logo image

Apple quietly updated its Powerbeats2 headphones to match Apple Watch Sport colors this week signalling a new move to focus audio accessories to the Apple Watch ecosystem. The new colors, which match the Apple Watch Sport Band colors of Blue, Black, Green, Pink and (updated) White, are available in Apple Stores but haven’t arrived at other retail locations yet.

The Apple Watch can store and play 2GB of music without a tethered iPhone wirelessly via Bluetooth 4 and with watchOS 2 will get access to many more audio applications. It wouldn’t be out of character for Apple to release over the ear Beats headphones in matching colors or even PowerBeats Wireless to match the more expensive stainless steel Apple Watch.

The new Powerbeats2 headphones will of course work with all Apple and other Bluetooth 4 devices even though they appear to be focused on the growing Apple Watch market.

Apple Powerbeats2 Wireless earphones still come in their original, dare I say, dated colors for $199 ($189 Amazon, $169 Best Buy or $160 Ebay) but the original White version has been moved from the old lineup the the new lineup. Original urBeats wired headphones can be found for as little as $45 via 9to5Toys.com

The best Apple Watch headphones and earphones

Up until now, Bluetooth wireless audio was purely optional for Apple’s devices: every iPad, iPhone, and iPod has shipped with a 3.5mm audio port to connect with wired earbuds and headphones. The Apple Watch is different: it’s Apple’s first fully wireless device, with no user-accessible ports to connect accessories, even though it can work as a standalone music player during workouts. The lack of a headphone port is actually a positive, since tethering your wrist to your head with a cable would look silly, and isn’t ergonomically ideal. Thankfully, Bluetooth headphones have come a long way over the past few years, shrinking from gangly and boxy earmuffs into earphones comfortable enough to exercise with.

But I’ll include some larger options, too, just in case you’re picking a pair for non-athletic use, or to share with your iPad, iPhone, iPod, or Mac…

The bags will cost shoppers around ¥38,000 (or about $323). There are four different types of bags available, and customers will get one at random when they make their purchase.
