3rd iPhone to be called the "iPhone Video"
It looks like AT&T is getting a little jealous of Carphone Warehouse's new iPhone inventory leakage. TUAW is reporting that a user caught a glimpse of a new iPhone name in their support website, since updated. The screenshot is below.
TUAW has a rocky record on this stuff and it could very easily be faked, but they've got their Digg button on so they're taking it to the bank.

I love the name!
maybe ichat video is coming
I love the name!
this is a dumb name if there is no iChat video
It may be, because of the long rumored video capturing and editing capabilities.. maybe video chat too!!
Awesome!
Can't wait, but will AT&T take my 16GB 3G iPhone as a trade-in?
Probably, they let 1st Gen iPhone users upgrade to the iPhone 3G mid contract :)
Trade in? I don't recall them ever doing it before... They'll probably lose money on the deal anyways...
Has anyone took note of the "Network: AT&T" option?
Just the first choice made in the app. Not specific to the iPhone.
That seals the deal. It has a front facing camera at higher rez, a stronger processor, more memory, and a better still cam. Apple wouldn't do a half baked video phone - it would break new ground.
Although the name does sound like it could be true, where are the rest of the phones? When I look they have every version of iPhone in there:
iPhone, iPhone 4GB, iPhone 8GB, iPhone 16GB, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3G 8GB Black, iPhone 3G 16GB Black, iPhone 3G 16GB White
Actually I was looking in the devices when logged in so thats why I saw a different list.
Why do website pictures always have to be blurrycam? Why not just take an actual snapshot of the website?
Either way, this picture means absolutely nothing. It'd be very easy to fake, and it's an easy guess. The new iPhone is probably going to have video recording, video editing, video uploading, video iChat, and some other fancy video features, so "iPhone Video" is an obvious possibility.
That's actually a valid point in respect to corporate security as well. It is well known that employees take snapshots of screens and send them to sites like this. Even thought this is against company policy and they can be fired! How do you stop an employee from taking a picture with their cellphone and sending it in? Carriers Security (Cough... 'CSO') groups are you reading???
Man I've been hoping for iPhone G3
The Gen 1 iPhone was not subsidized, therefore one could buy a subsidized 3G. That is not the case this time if one has a 3G. My prediction is that there will be a discount depending on how long one has had a 3G. For those who have had it for about a year the likely pricing will be $100 more than over the fully subsidized price with a new two year contract.
Also, Apple may keep a (new) 3G version at 4GB and 8 GB that is not a video phone.
Predicted pricing if this is the case:
New 3G 4GB $99 (perhaps pay as you go, or cheaper contract as well)
New 3G 8GB $199
Video 16GB $299
Video 32GB $399

Oh wait. That was a screenshot taken after about 10 seconds with firebug.
Yep, and that imageshack account can be tracked right to you.
It will be INCREDIBLE if it has video iChat! My entire, world-spanning family communicates primarily through iChat video. I don't presently own an iPhone because I've been holding out for that feature; I would use it all the time! Man, I'll be bummed if all that "iPhone Video" means is that it records and edits.

Well, afaik iTunes has supported 3rd part music players since... always... I don't see why the Pre should be banned. It's just another music player. In fact, Palm could be awaiting for such move from Apple on purpose, just to build their own app or to ban iTunes (alleging to their customers that was Apple the one banning them).
In the other side... Pre users will be able to continue using their Macs/iTunes for their digital life, point that clearly is a + for Apple, and also it will help Apple to demonstrate that iTunes isn't a exclusive product for iPods (another + for Apple IMO) so I cannot imagine any reason to ban the Pre at all.
byez, one noob :-)
why would apple want to ban pre users? At worst it will keep itunes users happy and spending money on music and video and at best it will bring new consumers to itunes who otherwise wouldnt have used the service. I can see the pre being another halo effect for apple products. Introduce newcomers to iTunes and suddenly they have a deeper admiration for apple products.

*sigh*
If you'd have gotten the pic you'd have run with it too, no need to be catty about it.

I know for a fact that you cannot upgrade a 3G iPhone to the new one at the regularly subsidized price. I did speak with an AT&T representative a while back who seemed quite certain that, unless the 2-year contract commitment was completed, full price would need to be paid for an upgrade. Otherwise, why would they subsidize in the first place? That said, I'm sure there are many people who would be happy to own a used but well-taken-care-of iPhone 3G for the right price. Fortunately for me, I have family members who are always happy to receive my hand-me-down gadgets.
And of course an ATT Rep. knows exactly what to do. Not!
blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.....
If its called Video it better have a 5MP camera ! :-P
You dont know much about video cameras I guess. Video cams have much lower resolution sensors you know ....
This will be more practical than live video conferencing that will require a good connection to avoid jerky images. So, if you're on WiFi or a really good HSDPA (7MB) connection, you can forward someone a video. Great for young people to send to their family. "Hey Mom, look at this view of our new campus." Etc. With direct saving to YouTube of course too.
