LifeProof is out today with a new iPhone case series created from recycled ocean-based plastics like old fishing nets. WĀKE for iPhone comes in some neat colors with a unique textural design and is also the company’s slimmest case yet.
LifeProof has debuted its flagship waterproof case today for iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro/Pro Max. The FRĒ offers iPhone customers a waterproof, dirtproof, dropproof, and snowproof experience while offering a sleeker design than previous versions.
After announcing its LifeActív Power Pack 20 portable battery back at CES in January, LifeProof has made its smaller Lifeactív Power Pack 10 Qi available for purchase today. As is the company’s tradition, the new power bank is waterproof, drop proof, dirt proof, and snow proof. However, different from its larger brother, the new model recharges your iPhone and other Qi compatible devices wirelessly while retaining both USB and USB-C ports for wired charging.
At CES 2019 today, LifeProof has unveiled its new LifeActiv Power Pack 20. The LifeActiv features dual 10,000mAh batteries with a 74-watt-hour capacity, packed in a water, dust, and drop proof design.
LifeProof is releasing a new version of its NUUD waterproof case with a new design fit the for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The new style accommodates the larger cameras on both models and increases the water resistance from splash resistant to water proof for up to 6.6 feet.
Lifeproof announced today that a new version of its highly durable, low profile NUUD case for iPhone is on the way. The Lifeproof NUUD for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus is available for pre-order from today.
LifeProof today has announced the expansion of its FRĒ Power iPhone case to the iPhone 6/s Plus. The FRĒ Power case combines the classic waterproof design of LifeProof’s cases with a battery pack, creating one of the most versatile cases on the market.
[Update 10/23: Lifeproof FRĒ Power case for iPhone 6s now available for pre-order in black for $129.99 — est. in stock on November 6th.]
Keeping your brand new iPhone in pristine condition from day 1 to day 365 is easily the best way to ensure it holds the most value when it comes time to resell it, and Lifeproof’s popular FRĒ WaterProof series for iPhones is known to successfully protect your shiny new hardware from the elements.
And typically cases made for iPhone designs introduced in even years (2008, 2010, 2012) continue to work without exception on new models introduced in odd years (iPhone 3G to 3GS, iPhone 4 to 4S, iPhone 5 to 5s), but the stronger aluminum body and pressure sensitive touch display used on this year’s iPhone models means some close fit cases for iPhone 6 won’t be compatible with iPhone 6s.
That’s the case with the very precise FRĒ WaterProof case. To remedy the iPhone 6 version’s incompatibility on this year’s iPhone models, Lifeproof has redesigned its FRĒ WaterProof series with new dimensions that fit both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s.
Available for pre-order from $79.95 and shipping at the start of November, the updated FRĒ WaterProof iPhone 6/6s case is sold in 6 color combinations and still resistant to intrusion from water, dirt, snow, and drops. Notably, the FRĒ WaterProof iPhone 6s case is also fully compatible with the faster Touch ID sensor as well as 3D Touch.
Most users won’t recognize the tiny differences in dimensions between each version, but be sure to opt for the new version if you have or plan on using the s-series iPhone 6. Last year’s model (check out our review here) can be had from $60.33 on Amazon, but note that it will not work with the newest iPhones.
LifeProof has become a household name in the iPhone accessory world since debuting its first ultra-protective case in 2011. The company has continued improving its waterproof cases with each new version of the iPhone. With the iPhone 5, LifeProof introduced its Nüüd series, which offers protection from water, snow, dirt, and shock while still exposing the display. We took a look at it last summer, noting that its an excellent choice for the adventurous iPhone user, albeit a bit bulky. It’s still available for $48.
With the iPhone 6, Apple presented LifeProof with a new challenge. The large, thin form factor of the iPhone 6 meant that LifeProof would have to work incredibly hard to develop a case that maintained a manageable form factor, while offering the same protection that users of the case have come to expect. We reviewed the LifeProof Fre for the iPhone 6 earlier this year and pointed out that it was a well thought out option, but that the Nüüd model would be very much welcomed. I’ve recently been testing the LifeProof Nüüd case for the iPhone 6. Here’s what you need to know:
Most cases will protect your iPhone during regular use, and many can handle accidental drops and a little abuse, but very few can withstand deliberate punishment. An amusing new Battle Damage video from Wired uses abusive tests to crown the “toughest iPhone case ever” from four different ultra-protective models: Griffin’s $50 Survivor,* LifeProof’s $80 Fre, Lunatik’s $125 Taktik Extreme, and Otterbox’s $50 Defender. The iPhone 5 units inside the Griffin Survivor and LifeProof Fre don’t make it through the first test, a hard smash of the encased iPhone on a hard floor, but Lunatik’s Extreme and Otterbox’s Defender go onto a second test: attempting to withstand a 50-pound safe while standing in a completely vertical position.
Unless you’re planning to drop a safe on your upright iPhone, the smaller and more affordable Defender seems like a smarter choice. But only Lunatik’s metal-reinforced Extreme survived the safe-dropping test; an iPhone 6 version hasn’t yet been released. Most people will do just fine with regular iPhone cases (or great iPhone battery cases), but if you want something that can protect against Looney Tunes-like antics, check out the video for some nice camera work and screen-shattering fun.
[* Note: Wired claims that the Griffin Survivor case shown in the video is Survivor Slim, but it looks more likely to be Survivor + Catalyst, a now-discontinued $80 model that was marketed as waterproof. Thanks, Nick!]
I’ve had LifeProof’s new Fre iPhone 6 case since it debuted last month and have put it through all kinds of torture tests, most notably my three-year-old who likes to watch Ben and Holly in the bath tub and six-year-old who sees no problem sled riding and skiing with a smartphone (Read: GPS tracking device).
The bottom line? It continues to protect from everything. Lots of drops, dirt, water, snow. Pretty much anything… Expand Expanding Close

This case has been around for a while, and frankly, I’ve always been a no-case kind of guy. But when I found myself not being as careful with my now almost two-year old iPhone 5, I thought that maybe I should just go all the way. Maybe I should get ahold of one of the more protective cases out there, without going off the deep end and getting something would provide more protection than I need.
LifeProofhas announced an updated version of it’s nüüd and frē cases. The cases both offer the same level of water, dirt, snow and shock protection as the previous nüüd and frē case for the iPhone 5, but now they support using the Touch ID sensor that is built into the home button on the newer iPhone 5s. Update: Here’s the official word from OtterBox regarding Touch ID compatibility: “The Preserver Series for the iPhone 5s incorporates a thin layer of a specially formulated material that allows for full functionality of the Touch ID fingerprint scanner technology while keeping the case completely sealed from water.”
One of the the most well-known tough case manufacturers, OtterBox, today announced their new Preserver Series waterproof cases for the iPhone 5/5s/5c and Samsung Galaxy S4. It aims to provide peace of mind for smartphone users in wet, dusty, and messy environments. Most notably, it provides protection in up to 6.6 feet while keeping a stylish slim-line design.
“About 70 percent of the Earth’s surface is covered in water, and technology is almost as pervasive,” said OtterBox CEO Brian Thomas. “We take our smartphones with us everywhere, and OtterBox is dedicated to making these activities as worry-free as possible. The Preserver Series is dependable, seriously waterproof protection that you can trust.”
The Preserver Series is also dust proof and drop proof for tumbles as high as 6.6 feet. All functions remain accessible through the case even though each port and button are fully protected. It is unclear how OtterBox is achieving a complete waterproof solution for the iPhone 5s while keeping access to the Touch ID sensor. It appears the entire screen is covered by a built-in screen protector except for the Touch ID sensor which could be waterproofed with the same technology found in Lifeproof Nuud cases. This would make sense as Otterbox recently acquired Lifeproof. We have reached out to OtterBox for clarification and will update this post when we have more information.
The iPhone 5 Preserver Series case is $89.95 and is available for shipping now. The iPhone 5s/5c cases are not yet available for order and pricing information is not currently known. Save up to 15% on any OtterBox.com order with coupon code AM2012.
