EDIT: Actually, I think we are going to go with our old rendition..just for old times sakes :O
Just a little tidbit for the weekend to munch on...
...
Our sources in China have just confirmed an earlier inside Apple report that the new Nano colors will be:
The screen takes up about 1/2 the surface area.... They look almost exactly like our mockup except the Nano won't be available in white. And you won't talk as much shit about my art skillz when they are out.
Color swatches here.
New Spy Picts here.

Your art skills still suck. Bad.
New Nano
Basically you are saying this WILL be the new Nano. If it isn't then you won't be trusted for info any longer. I hope you are right then. Live by secret sources, die by secret wources.

YEP.
If these will be the new
If these will be the new nano's hopefully Apple will release a Pink version later on (for my **cough, cough** girlfriend).
I still get this feeling
I still get this feeling that this squarish design could be the replacement for the shuffle. It is just such a drastic change in concept from the nano. Really though, I just don't want to have to replace all my docks! :-P Although, depending on how big the Nano's end up being, memory wise, I may just end up getting a full sized iPod.
What about the iPod Video?
Okay, thats great for Nano lovers, but what about the iPod video? I wanna hear some news about that, mabye a full screen or something like that.
So...
So if the new Nanos will have the screen size of the current gen iPod videos.... it is almost certain that the new full size ipods will have a full size screen.
Marketing?
I don't understand why Apple would want to make the new Nano a fatpod as depicted above. Although it makes sense that people want a bigger screen on their video iPods, it doesn't seem to be the same for people who own Nanos right now.
The distinguishing point between video iPods and Nanos was that a video iPod housed more storage so you could store both your all of your music and your videos without worrying about storage constraints, while the Nano was smaller for people to keep their favorite music onhand and not have to worry about a full-sized iPod in their pocket, so to speak videos were seemingly never intended to be part of a Nano.
The only way I could accept this as the new Nano is if the current Nano becomes the shuffle (although the name certainly doesn't match), while the shuffle gets a new name, maybe the micro, or even vise versa.
I'm not bashing the credibility of the post, but logically this just doesn't seem to match Apple's marketing plan for the respective iPods. I couldn't see Apple, who currently gloats about the admirably tiny Nano, suddenly saying, "Rejoice! The new Nano is now bigger!" Just my 2 pence.
true that.
true that.
what about Apple's art skills?
If your mock up looks like the final product, then I am a lot more worried about Apple's art skills than yours. I think all proportions are wrong on that squarish rectangle-shaped thing, which was equipped with an out-of-place and outdated scrollwheel just to make people aware that this is indeed an iPod.
The new nano if the name
The new nano if the name stay the same, will be an iPod video in a smaller form factor in fact.
The scroll whell will certainly be smaller than on the mockup.
This will allow Apple to expand the market for iPod Games and video.
If the form factor of the new nano is a square between 2" and 2.2" side length, it will be smaller than the actual nano.
The square form factor is an evident design for an Apple product, it's a pure geometric form. I'm surprised that it came so late.
How ridiculously messy...
You give Art a bad name. Your mock-up is a disgrace.
I hope you haters don´t act
I hope you haters don´t act like this in real life. You are a disgrace. Leave this guy alone, he is only trying to make an interesting site. Why so much hate?
@mitch, so i guess we
@mitch, so i guess we shouldn't touch thinksecret with a barge pole then, seeing as they're wrong quite often?
yet why do people still flock there, waiting for them to get something right?
give 9to5mac a chance. proving themselves human by making a mistake or two is acceptable. i just hope that it's correct more than incorrect!
Maybe. Look at the mockup
Maybe. Look at the mockup and then look at the ad to the left with the 3 Nano's. I can see moving the wheel north a bit and then chopping off the extra on the bottom. But, the screen and wheel size stay the same and maintain their same east-west distances to the edges of Nano (lets say proportional). Sort of the same layout feel as the full size iPod...but with smaller parts. So less size, less weight, more memory, more colors and who knows on price. All for back to school!
Not this thing!!
For once, I hope you're wrong. This thing is ugly. I liked the Nano design, I like to standard iPod design and I like the current Shuffle a lot. I think over the years, Apple refined the design. But this time around, if this is true, it's not refinement at all. Did they just put a contest out at Apple to let developers design a new version of iPod, and as grant price, the best design would be put in production by Sir Ive? Ive must be able to come up with something better than this. Ive, Please?
your ass. design...
can you tell the difference?
Here's a much better looking
Here's a much better looking mock-up:

hahhahaha
you have to be kidding. That thing is fugly.
edit: sorry that's not very nice. Let's wait until next month to judge. Or you can email us to see what we've got
It's ugly, but it's not the bloggers fault
This mockup is indeed pretty ugly, but please stop bugging this guy about his "art skills" as most of you don't know what you are talking about. I am an artist and have been one for over 40 years, and I know good design when I see it. I have also been trained in two separate design schools for a combined six years of art and design training.
The square looks ugly because *every* square object that has proportions less than something called the "golden rectangle" *always* looks "fat." It's the way the eye sees things and has nothing to do with drawing skills. This is the same reason that books, TV screens, doorways etc. all have that same rectangular shape. It's the golden rectangle, stupid.
If things are "thinner" in proportion than the golden rectangle, they look even thinner and cooler, the closer they go the other way (towards square) the chubbier and uglier they look.
Combine that with the Mork from Ork picture and the fact that the click wheel is touching the edges of the area it resides in and you have double-butt ugly. If it had a sexy reclining female on a shiny black square with a slightly smaller clickwheel, you would all be talking about how beautiful the mockup is.
Just stop talking about his "skills." Art skills are the ability to composite, make straight lines, and not put ugly colours together, etc. That has nothing to do with the Art or beauty part and nothing to do with why this looks "ugly."

My Mockup
Here's my Mockup of the wine red one:

that's better
but I am telling you the form is correct on the mockup - why doesn't anyone believe that?
Because.
but I am telling you the form is correct on the mockup - why doesn't anyone believe that?
Because there's no way apple is going back to a plastic nano after ditching it like yesterdays news a year back?
Because.

ehhhh, if its like the mockup, theyll be too big to jog w/ maybe a whole NEW ipod is coming out that looks like ur mockup.
Well OUR sources in China
Well OUR sources in China say that the new iPod will be made up of ground up lead from recalled Thomas the Tank trains. That way they will be able to protect your music from dirty bombs.

Nah
Your art skills aren't that bad, nice mockup. I mean, we get the idea. Nice colors too, btw. I like the red one. :)
how long is one side of the
how long is one side of the almost square ipod?
i think this is very important to judge whether its beautiful or not.
