Report: Apple to launch new recycling promo, offering up to $20 discount on AirPods and other accessories

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is set to launch a new trade-in promotion at its stores this week. Gurman says Apple will offer a 10% discount (up to $20 off) on the purchase of new Apple accessories, including AirPods, AirTag, Apple Pencil and more, when the buyer recycles an item that otherwise would not be eligible for trade-in credit.

He says the scheme will be officially announced tomorrow, and run for a month. It sounds like this promotion is timed to commemorate Earth Day, which is officially held on 22 April this year.

Only Samsung can minimize the crease in the iPhone Fold, says report

The Oppo Find 5 (right) has demonstrated the difference between a visible and near-invisible crease

The biggest reason Apple hasn’t yet launched a foldable iPhone is reported to have been the company’s dissatisfaction with the very visible crease in several generations of competitor models.

We heard earlier this year that Samsung had solved this problem to Apple’s satisfaction. A new report backs this, noting that neither of Apple’s other display partners has yet managed to do so …

iPadOS 19 needs these changes to be more like macOS

iPadOS 19

Apple will unveil iPadOS 19 at WWDC 2025 in June, and while most rumors focus on a new visionOS-inspired interface, a recent report revealed that Apple wants to make the iPad’s operating system “more like macOS.” This sounds too good to be true, and honestly I’m not expecting much. But there are some key changes that would already make iPadOS 19 more like macOS.

Opera says Apple’s DMA changes are not enough to truly open up iOS

Opera says Apple’s DMA changes are not enough to truly open up iOS

When the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) came into effect last year, Apple was forced to implement many changes to iOS – including letting developers create web browsers with their own engine. A year later, none of the major web browsers have released an EU-specific version.

Apple rebrands Search Ads business as ‘Apple Ads’

Apple today announced that it has officially rebranded Search Ads as ‘Apple Ads’, reflecting the expanding scope of Apple’s advertising business.

When Apple first launched ads in the App Store, they were only shown as promoted search results, hence the name ‘Search Ads’. But the company now offers advertising placements in many more places beyond just the Search tab, so the old name had become a bit anachronistic.
