New iPod Stuff....Holy
Yep, all of you angry commenters were right. That mockup we showed you awhile back? It isn't the new hi-end iPod. It is the new iPod Nano! It will be about two inches square and play video (so technically we were right about being the new video iPods). It is coming in 4GB and 8GB sizes and will likely keep the same pricing.
These little square machines are also coming in a new set of colors for all of us sick of the five already out. Those 320x240 videos you saw with the new iPod OS? That was a Nano.
The big news, though, is that the iPod XXXX (can't reveal name yet...but hint: HTC is gonna be bitter) is going to be a phoneless iPhone. No other technical information (like WiFi?!?! )was given from our source in Asia but according to him, they are in boxes being shipped to the US now. Would you pay $299 for this thing at the low end and $399 for the high end? Apple thinks you will.
As for the shuffles? No word yet but if everything is getting 'shuffled' down then there may be perhaps tiny screens for the smallest iPod family member? I guess they wouldn't be shuffles any more would they? What is smaller than a Nano and is saucy?
All of this is still on track for August release...still no event notification from Apple?
Edit: Yep Apple has sent out the press invites but no iPods?

whoohoo!
will there be a 2GB version of the new generation?
dont think so, maybe an 16gb afterwards
There's no way that the image shown would be a 2" sq Nano. Based on the image, that would make the click wheel about 3/4" in diameter and not very functional.
There also will still have to be an iPod that has a large storage capacity. There are too many people with large music/video libraries that will not settle for 8GB of memory. It only makes sense to have a "big screen" iPod with large hard drives.
Can you clarify the 299 and 399 price points as well as the 4 and 8 gig capacities? Would that be for the Nano or for the highest end ipod?
I can't imagine apple will not be producing any high capacity players...
Nano will stay at the same price points, and the HIGH END would return to it's $300 and $400 price.
i thought the iMacs were coming on Aug 7Th?
No way... nano's are never going 2 b like that the form factor is 2 good at the moment. plaus who would want to watch a film on a device whoch would only store a couple and show them on a screen smaller than 2" square? this is very un-apple!
Apple thinks I will pay $399, and Apple is right.
The bastards.
if you want something cheaper and basically the same thing, search for a cowon d2. it doesn't have the form factor, but it is cheaper, has a touchscreen, plays video, and has superior SQ.
So just how short of notice can there be for an apple event? I mean they still have to reserve space, distribute tickets and all that. Wouldn't that take more than 7 days to do?
There is just no way that the insanely detail oriented Steve Jobs would sell an iPod that looked like this. The scroll wheel almost touches the screen and it's proportions are far from elegant. When has apple ever released a new product that someone could have mocked up by squishing the previous model in Photoshop? It will be better than this.
I believe that this mock-up is wrong. The device which is being mentioned here will have a full screen. The click-wheel will appear on the screen when desired and will function just as the click wheel did. And such a device, people, will be cool.
what everyone has failed to mention is that the nano has been working perfectly in sinc with the nike+ products and was perhaps formatted origionally as such. a new form factor would render all their previous clothing lines that accomodate the current nano formfactor obsiliete and not usable. nike would never permit this and neither would apple.
if the new mock-up is true, i better go get a current nano now, cause the new one will ruin the hugly successful nike+ program! any thoughts?
yeah, a spelling and grammar lesson.
come on, Firefox and Opera have spell check built in, don't be lazy
HTC makes the "HTC Vision", and since this supposed iPod will use a camera, I'm guessing that's the answer to the (rather obvious) clue.
Founded in 1997, High Tech Computer Corp. (HTC) designs, manufactures and markets innovative, feature rich Smartphone and PDA Phone devices.
I am not sure whether you got this one right.
Actually I think it's "Wizard".
the HTC thing for SPrint just branded as Vision.
HTC Advantage. iPod Advantage. Makes sense.
Also:
Smaller and 'saucier' than Nano? Micro!
> Smaller and 'saucier' than Nano? Micro!
Micro is bigger than nano. I think "Milli" is what your looking for.
Milli is even bigger than Micro actually..
sorry, its acutally pico. please remember your high school chemistry
The HTC clue is for the HTC Touch that was released a few days before the iPhone. So, I'm guessing we're going to get an iPod Touch.
Phoneless iPhone would mean that it would have wifi and could be used as a VOIP device??
yeah its going to b e an iPod TOUCH!!! everything but the fone!!!
ipod touch??
iPod touch I can see. There's no way Apple will name a product "wizard" or "advantage" or any other name suggested above.
HTC makes a product called the "Wizard" which is an IPhone like shell on Windows Mobile and is currently available in Europe. I suspect this is more likely to be what Cleve was referring to if there is a touch sensitive interface.
iPod Feel?
Holy crap. That's the ugliest thing out of Apple since the colored iMacs.
