A new breakthrough in Bluetooth chip technology has shed the battery that typically comes with the small hardware component. Wiliot is seeing success with its paper-thin Bluetooth sticker chip that could land in devices later this year. The chip is able to be battery-free by harnessing the ambient radio waves to power it and has a lot of potential use cases.

Apple’s HomeKit seemed to be the star of the show at the Consumer Electronics Show this year, with a wide range of home-based gadgets — TVs, ceiling fans, outdoor sensors, light panels, a screen-based hub, 4K security cameras, thermostats and more — making headlines.

The HomeKit ecosystem is growing, and it looks like prices may even begin inching downward as well — but that’s not enough, and not fast enough either. As Bradley Chambers wrote in an opinion piece, Apple is leaving a lot of potential on the table by relying solely on third parties to create home-based gadgets.

Scosche is out today with details on its new BaseLynx modular charging and organization system for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and more. The customizable charging system allows users to configure a solution to their needs with components for Apple Watch, Qi wireless charging for iPhone, as well as wired USB-C and USB-A charging for iPad, and more.

We first heard about Ikea’s plans to enter the smart blinds market back in November, but details were sparse at that time. This week, however, Ikea Smartshades have officially popped up on the company’s website in Europe.
