Site default logo image

mfi-game-controllers

There have been a lot of changes since Apple first introduced specs for its Made-for-iPhone (and iPad and Apple TV) game controllers. Controllers have come down in price, more games support gamepads, and the 4th-gen Apple TV introduced an App Store with multi-controller support giving Apple its first real living room gaming machine. Below we put them to the test (all of them!) to find out which one is best overall and the best for each of Apple’s platforms.

Apple didn’t drop former Beats design firm, company collaborated on latest BeatsX and Beats EP headphones

Site default logo image

beatsx-ammunition

Back in 2014 following Apple’s acquisition of Beats, the company planned to transition away from Beats’ design firm Ammunition. Naturally, most assumed that Apple would then be using its own design teams for future Beats products. But we’ve learned that Ammunition is continuing to work with Apple in some capacity, at least collaborating on the design of its latest BeatsX and Beats EP headphones.

After bragging about beating AirPods to market, Bragi delays Headphone, offers PDF to leave under tree

Site default logo image

bragi-headphone-delay-01

Accessory maker Bragi has announced delays for its upcoming cord-free earbud product called “The Headphone.”

Part of Germany-based Bragi’s story has always been that it was one of the first to market with a truly wireless, cord-free earbud, The Dash. That product didn’t receive glowing reviews over the last year, but when the company announced a less expensive and refined version with The Headphone, it looked like it could be a true competitor to Apple’s wireless AirPods. But the AirPods officially launched last week and are arriving to customers this week, and now Bragi is announcing a delay to its product that was supposed to ship for the earliest pre-order customers in time for Christmas. The product’s estimated shipping date was later pushed back to early January, but it looks like Bragi will miss that date for some pre-orders as well.

In an email to customers, the company says it doesn’t have “enough to fulfill all pre-orders.”

Niantic is working on its own wearables, which is why Apple Watch Pokemon Go app still hasn’t shipped

Site default logo image

Over the weekend we reported that developer Niantic had put its Apple Watch app development on hold and therefore likely wouldn’t be making its previously promised end of the year deadline. Niantic attempted to shoot the story down with a vague tweet saying the app is coming soon, but it wouldn’t confirm its promised end of year release date. While many were quick to take the tweet at face value, we’re actually able to provide much deeper context…

Review: PhotoFast offers the first MFi drive w/ Lightning, USB-C, USB-A, micro-USB & direct YouTube downloads

Site default logo image

I’ve reviewed a lot of Lightning thumb drives in the past, which allow you to transfer and stream files from the drive directly to an iPhone or iPad with a built-in Lightning connector and companion app. On the other end is usually a USB-A connector to do the same on your Mac or PC, but this new Lightning drive from PhotoFast also offers USB-C for new MacBook and MacBook Pro users AND micro-USB, making for a complete solution that will let you transfer files between all of your devices.

Why Apple is removing ‘time remaining’ battery life estimates following MacBook Pro complaints

Site default logo image

macbook-pro-time-remaining

Following a flurry of media coverage highlighting battery life complaints for Apple’s 2016 MacBook Pros, we’ve learned an internal investigation by the company has determined there isn’t a hardware flaw to address with the new machines. Instead, Apple is today removing inaccurate “time remaining” battery life estimates from macOS, a move that it hopes will address concerns among users.

There has been a lot of confusion over battery life estimates on the new 2016 MacBook Pros. Some were reporting estimates lower than expected via the macOS battery life status menu which offered an on the fly prediction of remaining juice, but there was a clear misunderstanding about how the feature worked.

Apple didn’t have a ton of public information about how the battery life estimations were calculated, but we’ve talked to those in the know to get the scoop on why they’ve decided to remove it entirely following the MacBook Pro battery life concerns.

apple-87w-usb-c-power-adapter

Following a lawsuit revealed back in October in which Apple exposed an issue with a large percentage of fake Apple adapters being marketed as “genuine” online, today the company has posted an official warning to customers.

The message, posted on the front page of the company’s support webpage, warns customers that counterfeit power adapters and batteries could pose safety issues. The company also offers customers that might have had a recent battery replacement the option to bring in their devices to an Apple Store or authorized service provider to check if the battery is genuine:

Review: Furbo is an iPhone & Apple Watch-controlled, treat dispensing security camera for your dogs

Site default logo image

furbo-01

Furbo is a camera made specifically to spy on your dogs, talk to them, and dispense treats from your iPhone or Apple Watch. It connects to your Wi-Fi, which means you can control it remotely to watch, reward, and talk to your pets from wherever you are. Is it worth the cost of entry for the treat dispensing features alone, or are pet owners better off with a serious security camera solution?

Apple this week shared photos of its under construction Campus 2 with employees, including some of the first interior shots of the building that is now nearing completion. The photos don’t appear to be meant for public consumption, but were published today by French blog macgeneration.

As part of the memo to employees, Apple reportedly said that around 5,200 people are currently working the site.  The photos, which are some of the first of the building’s interior, shows the enormity of the structure from a ground-level perspective.

One shot shows work on a “Caffè Macs” location, Apple’s company cafeteria, that is housed in the main spaceship-shaped building:
