MacBook Pro Touch Bar support for Logic Pro X coming early next year

Site default logo image

Apple impressed me with the apps it had ready for the new MacBook Pro’s Touch Bar at launch. It’s not just limited to button replacements or system functions, which you can customize, but will also support Final Cut Pro, Terminal, GarageBand, Maps, iTunes, Calendar, Djay Pro, Photoshop, and lot of other Apple and third-party apps when customers start receiving the first orders in the weeks to come.

But as a daily Logic Pro X user, I noted the lack of mention for Apple’s pro audio suite at the unveiling of its new Pro notebook. The good news: we’ve learned from a source familiar with the company’s plans that the Logic Pro team is currently targeting early next year for Touch Bar support.

As we await Apple’s AirPods, these are the best wireless cord-free earbuds available

wireless-cord-free-earbuds-here

Apple delayed the release of its new truly wireless earbuds called AirPods that it originally planned on launching in late October. It’s disappointing for some who wanted to use them with their new iPhone 7 that launched back in September. But what does the competition look like?

With the AirPods originally expected to launch sometime this month, right around the time of Apple’s MacBook Pro event and Apple Watch Nike+ launch last week, a lot of accessory makers have been planning launches to time and compete with Apple’s new wireless earbuds. Just this week a few new products launched, including Michigan-based Sol Republic’s first cord-free product called ‘Amps Air’, and today Best Buy is launching new $249 Skybuds that claim to offer 24 hours battery with an included charging case and improved connectivity.

If you just can’t wait for the AirPods, or want to check out the competition and see how Apple’s earbuds compare, these are the alternatives…

Apple says new MacBook Pro’s 16GB RAM limitation is to maintain battery life efficiency

Site default logo image

Apple has commented on the decision to limit the new MacBook Pro’s RAM to a maximum 16GB, informing a customer in an email that offering more would make for a compromised experience. Specifically, Apple says that more than 16GB of RAM “at this time would require a memory system that consumes much more power and wouldn’t be efficient enough for a notebook.”

Poll: New MacBook Pros are out, which model are you getting?

macbook-pros-2016

Now that Apple’s new MacBook Pros are out… which model do you plan on picking up?

As expected, Apple officially unveiled all-new MacBook Pros today including new 13-inch and 15-inch models. The highlight new feature of the devices is the Touch Bar, a thin Retina touchscreen that replaces the function key row on the keyboard and offers contextually sensitive buttons and gestures.

But the company did have one somewhat of a surprise: it introduced a less expensive 13-inch entry-level model that doesn’t include the Touch Bar and a couple less Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports. It also has a new space grey color option in addition to the old silver.

Review: Sol Republic’s new cord-free wireless earbuds bring big bass to take on Apple’s AirPods

sol-republic-amps-air-01

Audio accessory maker Sol Republic is today launching its first product in the cord-free headphone space, the ‘Amps Air’ wireless earbuds. The launch would have been timed with the now delayed release of Apple’s own similar wireless AirPods that were previously expected to launch late this month and possibly following the company’s Mac event today. Apple released a last minute statement yesterday informing customers it needs more time to get the product right before shipping.

But after using the new Amps Air earbuds from Sol Republic over the last week, I’m convinced they will be a better option for many…

Report: Apple continues hiring from BlackBerry’s QNX team for Canadian R&D office developing car software

Alpine CarPlay

Following an earlier report that Apple hired former BlackBerry employee and founder of the company’s QNX operating system, a new Bloomberg story today details Apple’s expansion of an R&D facility in Canada housing dozens of engineers that appear to be working on car related software.

The report points to many hires coming from BlackBerry’s QNX teams, which it notes is currently used as an underlying operating system in over 60 million cars. The team is located in Kanata, Ontario, Canada, the hometown of Blackberry’s QNX where Apple reportedly leased R&D office space back in January:

Jamf conference: IBM cutting costs w/ largest enterprise Mac deployment, 100,000 by end of year

Site default logo image

ibm-jamf-mac-01

At the JAMF Nation User Conference (JNUC) this week, IBM’s Fletcher Previn delivered an update on the company’s rollout of Macs internally since it introduced Apple computers as an option for employees for the first time last year. In just over a year, IBM passed its original goal of deploying 50,000 Macs and is now at 90,000 internally. That makes it the largest enterprise Mac deployment anywhere, and Previn described how it’s helping the company cut costs.
