It’s Wednesday, September 7th and Apple’s iPhone 7 event is about to kick off at 10 AM PT/1 PM ET.

Apple trademarks hint at AirPods case, ‘Iris Image Engine’ & more ahead of iPhone 7 event

Trademark attorney Brian Conroy today published evidence of new trademarks that Apple possibly plans to use for upcoming products. Most notably, the trademark filings reference an “Iris Engine” and “AirPods case,” leading to speculation that Apple could use the branding for new products and features to be unveiled at its event tomorrow.

KGI: Apple planning wireless headphones to target higher-end than Beats for iPhone 7

Ahead of Apple’s iPhone 7 event tomorrow, the latest supply chain analysis from KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo notes that Apple is developing a Bluetooth-like wireless chip likely to be used in new wireless headphones.

The report follows our own report from earlier this year that Apple was working on cord-free wireless earbuds ahead of its new iPhones, the first expected to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack. KGI adds that the headphones will target a higher-end market than the company’s Beats brand:

Following iPhone 7, iPhone 4 (& few Macs) will become vintage/obsolete, lose Apple repair support

Apple is about to add iPhone 4 alongside other Macs and iPods to its list of vintage and obsolete products, meaning the devices will lose support for repair services through Apple and its authorized dealers. The change is scheduled to kick in a week after Apple’s iPhone 7 event later this month, according to internal documents (pictured below).

Report: Spotify punishing artists that take Apple Music exclusives by limiting promotion (Update: Spotify denies)

Update: A Spotify spokesperson tells us Bloomberg’s report regarding search results being buried is “unequivocally false”.

Following reports that Universal Music is preventing artists from agreeing to exclusive streaming deals with Apple Music and others, new reports claim Spotify is now limiting promotion of artists that take deals with rivals.
