Sonos delays the launch of its new ‘Sub Mini’ wireless subwoofer

Earlier this year, The Verge revealed renders of Sonos’s next new product – a wireless subwoofer named “Sub Mini.” A few weeks later, FCC filings confirmed that the device was real and that its launch could be really close. However, Sonos has now pretty much confirmed that the new Sub Mini subwoofer has been delayed even before its official announcement.

Smart speaker maker Sonos has accidentally shipped customers more than what they ordered, according The Verge. In addition to sending extra speakers, the company has charged for these products and wants them sent back. While Sonos is refunding the incorrect charges, customers want a discount for putting up with the inconvenience.

After being leaked back in April, Sonos has officially launched its new soundbar. The Ray comes as its most affordable home theater speaker priced at $279 and is more compact than the Beam or full-sized Arc. Sonos has also announced its own “Voice Control” service that will arrive next month to let users control Apple Music directly from Sonos speakers with built-in mics.

Sonos launches Roam SL portable AirPlay speaker as headphone rumors swirl

Last spring we saw Sonos jump into the ultra-portable speaker market with Roam. While it comes with a somewhat premium price, it packs some great features like AirPlay 2, Bluetooth and WiFi support, Qi charging, and a built-in mic. Sonos Move AirPlay 2/Bluetooth speaker now boasts 11 hour battery life, Lunar White version

Sonos is upgrading its first portable Bluetooth speaker introduced last fall with more battery life and a new color option. The new Lunar White Sonos Move joins the Shadow Black version that launched in September, and pre-orders for the new finish start today. Existing Sonos Move customers can add an additional hour of battery life through a free software update.

Update: The Sonos 2 app is now available, ahead of the launch of new products on Wednesday.

In what is likely to prove an extremely controversial move, Sonos has announced that it is developing a completely new platform, Sonos S2. This will add hi-res audio capabilities but will create a ‘fork’ which will effectively leave older speakers on a legacy platform.

The Sonos S2 operating system will run on all future speakers, as well as ‘many’ current ones, but will require a new Sonos app. Older speakers will be relegated to legacy status …
