One of the more… interesting discoveries yesterday is that there’s no way to delete your Threads account without also deleting your Instagram one.

After widespread objections to this, the company now says that it is “looking into a way to delete your Threads account separately” …

ICYMI, Elon Musk spent $44 billion in 2022 to buy Twitter and fired most of the company. A lot has happened since then, to say the least. Now Twitter is threatening to sue Meta for supposedly hiring employees that Musk fired and building a competitive platform.

Twitter’s implosion has helped Threads get off to a great start, gaining 10M users in the first 10 hours. But the app’s rush to market has meant some surprising failings, the biggest being that you can’t have a Threads feed comprising only people you follow.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri has responded to a request by tech videographer MKBHD, stating that this is “on the list” of improvements to come to the app …

To take advantage of this, Meta now seems to have confirmed that Threads – its new app to compete with Twitter – will be released later this week.

Twitter has officially announced a change that many of us saw coming. Starting next month, the company is putting TweetDeck behind a paywall, requiring that users subscribe to Twitter Blue to access the more advanced, multi-column version of Twitter.

Twitter has also started migrating all Twitter users to the new version of TweetDeck and is cutting off access to the classic version.

When your business model is selling eyeballs to advertisers, it’s hard to imagine anything dumber than blocking access to your own site and telling users to go outside instead, yet somehow Twitter rate limits are a real thing.

But analysis suggests that this may be even dumber than we thought, as it appears to be a Twitter bug that created the “emergency” that saw the rate limits introduced in the first place …

Yesterday, Twitter started blocking people not logged into an account from viewing tweets, profiles, or any information. In what could be considered an even more shortsighted decision, Elon Musk now says that Twitter is limiting the number of tweets that users with an account can view.

Update 11:45 am PT: Elon has responded to the criticism and is increasing the limits to a whopping:

• 8000 posts per day for verified accounts;
• 800 posts per day for unverified accounts;
• 400 posts per day for new unverified accounts.
