Video comparison of gold iPhone 5S casing against iPhone 5

Site default logo image

A new video has surfaced purporting to show a comparison between an iPhone 5, gold iPhone 5S, and blue iPhone 5C. This leak comes just days after another video of an iPhone 5C shell.

The latest video only details the outsides of the devices, but recent reports indicate the iPhone 5S will recieve a few significant internal upgrades as well, including a new 64-bit “A7” processor and an improved camera and additional storage.

Review: ReadQuick 1.5 brings speed-reading to the iPhone

Site default logo image

ReadQuick, the speed-reading app for iPad, has been updated to version 1.5 today. The new version brings the app to the iPhone and iPod touch.

For those who aren’t familiar, ReadQuick is an app that presents a new way to read web articles. Rather than present you the entire article as one page, ReadQuick shows you the entire article one word at a time. That may sound inconvenient, but it turns out it’s actually much nicer than it sounds. Keep reading for our full review of the brand new iPhone version.

New next-gen iOS device rumors: Photos of silver iPad 5 back, more claims of gold 5S

Site default logo image

More rumors of Apple’s next-generation iPad and iPhones have hit the web today. TechCrunch added further credence to rumors of a gold iPhone 5S shipping along with the usual black and white models after photos what appears to be the back shell of that device leaked earlier this week. Earlier this week iMore noted that it would not be difficult for Apple to create a gold iPhone 5S, but that the decision against it may have previously been a commercial issue. However, gold is a popular color in the China market, which could give the iPhone 5S an even bigger boost in sales in that region.

The gold 5S will add even more color to the iPhone lineup, which is already expected to become quite colorful with the release of a low-cost plastic “iPhone 5C” later this year.

1Password 4 for iOS goes on sale ahead of Dropbox API changes

AgileBits, the development team behind 1Password for iOS and Mac, announced today that due to an upcoming change in Dropbox’s API, Dropbox syncing in version 3 of the 1Password iOS client will no longer work as of September 1st. Because the old version of 1Password has been discontinued, it will not be updated to work with the new Dropbox API.

Instead, AgileBits is offering the new and improved 1Password 4 at $7.99 the lowest price to date. The sale will last until Friday, August 16th. Since 1Password 4 requires iOS 6, some customers may not be able to update to the latest version. If that’s the case, those users will be glad to know that 1Password 3 will still support Wi-Fi syncing with computers on the same network.

AgileBits has also published a new FAQ document to explain the changes and possible solutions.

Review: 4Snaps is a fun new word game for iOS

Site default logo image

Product: Today we’re taking a look at a brand-new word game for iOS called 4Snaps. The premise of the game is like a cross between charades and Draw Something. You’re given a choice of three words. You have to pick one of these and then take four photos (“snaps”) to help the other player guess the word. The object is to see how many turns you can take in a row before someone misses the word.

Publishers object to Department of Justice’s punishment for Apple in eBooks case

Screen Shot 2013-08-07 at 1.45.49 PMFive publishers have filed objections with the US Department of Justice regarding the DOJ’s choice of punishment in a recent anti-trust ruling against the Cupertino company. The ruling found Apple guilty of conspiring to fix e-book prices, forcing customers to pay a higher price. The proposed punishment would require them to cut off their current agreements with the five publishers in question and avoid entering new agreements for five years that could prohibit competitiveness in the market.

The publishers objecting to the proposed punishment say that rather than punishing Apple, the decision actually hurts the settling parties by disallowing them to enter into new agreements with Apple using the agency model while doing nothing to prevent Apple from engaging in anti-competitve e-book pricing behavior.

Apple pushed out a new developer preview of OS X Mavericks earlier today that included the first beta bulid of iBooks for Mac, the very bookstore that lead to the anti-trust case against Apple to begin with.

FaceHalt brings Galaxy S4-style automatic video pausing to jailbroken iOS devices

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HxnQAlrA9E

Recent Samsung ads for the Galaxy S4 have been used to highlight a unique feature of the phone that can automatically pause video when you turn your head away from your device. This has been an exclusive feature on the S4 for quite some time, but is now available to jailbroken iOS users through a new tweak called FaceHalt.

While early versions of FaceHalt seemed a bit buggy and unstable, the latest build works flawlessly on both the iPhone and iPad. The tweak works system-wide, from the YouTube app to the built-in Videos app, and all of the third-party apps tested. The biggest downside? You’ll actually have to watch those YouTube ads now.

FaceHalt is available on Cydia now for $1.99 on the BigBoss repo.

Update (Sept 24th): Apple added a Knowledge Base on this

BQX-Cp6CIAAO9Gc

The latest beta version of iOS 7 for mobile devices and Apple TV introduces a new method of pairing your iOS device’s Remote app with your Apple TV. Previously, the pairing procedure required the use of the regular infrared remote that comes with the Apple TV. Today’s beta allows the user to simply tap the phone on the Apple TV to connect using Bluetooth. The feature requires a Bluetooth 4.0-capable device, which means only more recent iOS devices are supported.

Review: Ohai for iPhone helps you keep track of where you’ve been

Site default logo image

When it comes to location check-ins, there are a lot of different apps that are designed to tell everyone where you are and what you’re doing. With apps like Foursquare dominating the check-in space, it’s hard to imagine a different way of doing things.

Ohai is an app that does exactly that: it introduces a new way of handling location check-ins. Whereas Foursquare makes checking in at different locations something of a game, complete with a scoring system and leaderboard, Ohai focuses more on saving memories and less on visiting the most places of all your friends.
