One of the small but notable changes to the iPhone 15 Pro is the switch to Qualcomm’s new X70 modem for improved 5G performance. As it turns out, this change also applies to the entry-level iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
iFixit already gave the iPhone 15 Pro Max its usual teardown treatment. For the vanilla iPhone 15 model, the teardown experts served up a microscopic spin on the usual disassembly video.
The iPhone 15 lineup has been out for two weeks, and we got some great upgrades and improvements. We got new cameras, new colors, new build, new materials, new chipset, new action button, and more. But the one new feature that, I believe, has the most upside is the replacement of the beloved lightning port with USB-C on all iPhones. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus received a 2.0 USB-C port, and the Pro models got USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports that allow for some awesome use cases. This transition reminds me of when Apple did the same thing with the iPad Pro lineup in 2018. People, including myself, began to dream of the possibilities that USB-C could bring to iPads. Now the same is happening for the iPhone 15 series.
The iPhone 15 overheating problem was both confirmed and visualized using thermal imaging, and now the same tech has been used to show the impact of Apple’s software fix.
In our own poll, a full 57% of 9to5Mac readers with iPhone 15 models had experienced the overheating problem …
We’re now almost three weeks removed from the launch of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro. I published some of my very quick first impressions on launch day, particularly focused on the design and form factor of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
One thing I’ve been paying a close eye on, however, is the lifestyle impact of the iPhone 15’s switch to USB-C.
At the Made by Google 2023 event this morning the company officially launched its Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, Pixel Watch 2, and more. Follow along for what Google has announced with its iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Series 9 competitors including what the new hardware brings, 7 years of software updates, and other interesting new capabilities.
iPhone 15 was launched less than two weeks ago, and there are already some users complaining about overheating issues – but it seems that there are more users unhappy with their new iPhone for other reasons. There’s now a small group of people claiming to be experiencing issues with the iPhone 15’s built-in speakers. More specifically, they say that the audio sounds crackly and rattly.
Multiple reports of problems with iPhone wireless charging in BMWs do not appear specific to the iPhone 15 line-up, but may be exacerbating existing heating issues which Apple says are most acute in the latest models.
Some owners of BMW cars with wireless charging pads are reporting a range of problems, including the NFC chip used for Apple Pay being left unusable …
Consumer Reports tried to repeat the findings with the use of a slightly more scientific methodology, and found that the iPhone 15 Pro Max did not crack under the pressure. Consumer Reports was one of the leading critics of the iPhone design back when the iPhone 6 ‘#Bendgate’ was a thing.
The iPhone 15 devices have been out in the wild for a week and Apple has started a survey asking for feedback from early adopters on what they think about the new phones. Along with questions about important purchase factors, satisfaction with the camera features, and more, Apple wants to know what users would add or change about the new iPhones.
With Apple officially out of the leather case and accessory market, third parties stand as the only options for those who prefer to stick with the material. I’ve been testing out the Modern Leather Case and Folio with my iPhone 15 Pro, and have come to love them. I’ll also cover Nomad’s Rugged Case as a non-leather option for those who aren’t feeling Apple’s FineWoven or silicone cases.
Apple recently released four new models in its iPhone lineup: the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Like all iPhones that Apple sells these days, with the exception of the iPhone SE 2, it features an “edge to edge” display, and lacks the physical Home button that iPhones were associated with for years.
For modern iOS devices, you’ll utilize the Volume buttons and Side button to facilitate actions like force restarts, entering recovery mode and DFU mode, etc. Watch our hands-on video walkthrough for the details, and be sure to subscribe to 9to5Mac on YouTube for more videos.
This month, Apple announced the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, and the new phones have been available in stores in more than 40 regions around the world since September 22. Starting this Friday, September 29, the new iPhones will be available in more than 20 additional countries.
We all know the deal by now. Apple replaced its leather accessories with a new material it calls FineWoven. The idea is that getting out of the leather game at Apple’s scale lowers the company’s carbon footprint. So far, so good. But FineWoven hasn’t been a clear winner. Do you think the initial reaction has been overblown, or is FineWoven really as bad as its critics say?
We’ve written quite a bit about the controversy surrounding Apple’s FineWoven cases for iPhone 15. One thing I wanted to point out today, however, is that it’s not just FineWoven cases that might not work with your USB-C cables.
Widespread reports are circulating about the iPhone 15 overheating, seemingly across all models. Measurements taken with an infrared camera show temperatures as high as 116F.
The issue appears to affect all four iPhone 15 models, with some owners reporting that their phones get too hot to even hold without a case – including 9to5Mac’s Ian Zelbo …
Apple’s new FineWoven cases for iPhone 15 are looking like a surefire flop so far. Now, in response to the blowback, Apple has sent a new memo to its retail employees with guidance on how to address customer questions on things like FineWoven’s durability, material structure, and more.
While the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro don’t come with massive changes, most of the upgrades involve the new camera systems. Going in-depth, pro photographer and videographer Tyler Stalman has shared his review of the new iPhones with a focus on the cameras.
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus crank up the limit on how bright Apple’s non-Pro phone displays can go. Pixelmator will soon take advantage of the new displays, which reach peak brightness at 1600 nits, with an update to Photomator on iPhone 15.
Apple’s new FineWoven cases for iPhone 15 are a huge swing and miss. They suck. Apple should remove them from sale and refund everyone who’s already bought one. You could pretty much stop reading the story at this point, but I’ll offer a few pieces of supporting evidence for my claims.
Apple has now moved a total of $7B worth of iPhone production out of China and into India, according to an unnamed government official cited in a new report.
The same official says that Apple plans to hit $40B within the next five years, as the company accelerates plans to reduce its dependence on China …
Following the iPhone 15 release on Friday, the first battery test results are coming in. Apple touted the efficiency of the 3nm A17 Pro chip, so anticipation was high for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max to take the top spot.
Indeed, the Pro Max outlasted all previous iPhones in Mrwhosetheboss’s test. But it was actually bested by the 15 Plus, which racked up more than 13 hours screen on time, and now holds the title of longest iPhone battery life on record.
If you’re unboxing your new iPhone 15 today, you might run into a bug during the setup process, as we first reported this morning. Apple says that all iPhone 15 models ship with a build of iOS 17 that may prevent you from transferring data from your old iPhone to your new iPhone 15.
The company says iOS 17.0.2 is now available for iPhone 15 devices, but there are several important things to point out.
