Logic Pro X

Apple's professional audio production suite for Macs

See All Stories

Logic Pro X is Apple’s professional audio production software and the counterpart to its entry-level Garageband app that comes with Macs and iOS devices. The $199 suite offers audio recording functionality alongside world-class virtual instruments, effects, and thousands of high quality audio samples and loops. With recent additions like Flex Pitch – a completely embedded custom audio pitch manipulation tool– and the automatic beat-making machine known as Drummer, Logic Pro X remains as one of the leading software suites in the recording industry.

With Logic Pro X, Apple has notably put a focus on producers of popular mainstream genres, offering features specific to electronic music and hip-hop audio production in recent updates to the suite. That includes the new heavy weight sample manipulation synth Alchemy that Apple integrated after it acquired developer Camel Audio in 2015.

Unlike Garageband, Logic Pro X isn’t available as a full version for iPhones or iPads, but there is a Logic Pro Remote app that acts as a companion experience for controlling transport functions and other features remotely.

Logic Pros Review: The ‘Unique’ virtual analog synth and wild vowel filter comes to iOS

In this week’s episode of Logic Pros, we are taking a look at the new Unique iOS synth from Sugar-Bytes. The company has been making some of the most wild audio effects processors and instruments for quite some time now. Turnado, Effectrix, Artillery and the more recent Looperator provide some of the most interesting and crazy beat slicing/glitch effects out there. We got some awesome news last week when Sugar-Bytes released Unique for iPhone and iPad. This isn’t some hacked-up port or a thinned out version either. This is now one of the best dual-oscillator analog synths on the platform. As a long-time user of the company’s products, I couldn’t wait to go hands on with Unique for iOS.

Logic Pros: Taking a closer look at Output’s Signal pulse engine synth for Mac

Today we will be taking some time out to detail another fantastic software instrument for Logic Pro X and all major DAWs. Signal has become a go-to for me when it comes to rhythmic synth lines and organic poly-rhythms. It uses 40GB of dynamically recorded material and a dual-layer pulse engine amounting to nothing less than a monster arpeggiator/rhythm gate beast…

Feature Request: Logic Pro-like customizable keyboard shortcut buttons for Touch Bar

Site default logo image

touch-bar-keyboard-shortcuts

For last week’s installment of our Logic Pros series, I wrote about the new Touch Bar support in the recently released latest version of Logic Pro X. It turns out Final Cut Pro users have good reason to be jealous; and other apps could benefit a lot from implementing what Logic has done. It’s some of the best support yet, and one feature specifically, fully customizable banks of buttons for keyboard shortcuts, is something I’d love to see other apps adopt.

Final Cut Pro, GarageBand and other Apple apps got Touch Bar support at launch, but what Logic Pro X ended up getting beats them all.

With Logic Pro X 10.3, Apple introduced support for the new MacBook Pro’s Touch Bar, the small touchscreen panel that debuted on the device last fall. Logic users might have had to wait longer than Final Cut Pro or even GarageBand users as one of Apple’s main apps that didn’t get support right at launch, but what it did end up getting is some of the best Touch Bar support yet. Let’s take a look.

Logic Pros: Breathe some life into your tracks w/ Exhale vocal engine

exhale-hero-logic-pros-1

In this week’s episode of Logic Pros, we are stepping into the world of Exhale. A perfect follow-up to our review of Output’s Substance bass engine, the company’s Exhale Kontakt instrument for Logic Pros X (and other DAWs) boasts a wide array of vocal samples, loops and phrases fed through a complex synthesis engine resulting in one of the coolest vocal plugins for Logic I’ve used in a long time.

Outside of typical, organic lead vocals, many of the sounds made with voices in contemporary music (think vocal samples and effects used in electronic and hip-hop music) are often done with your basic sampler like an EXS 24 or in specialty instruments like Alchemy. But Exhale adds in some cool tricks for pros while offering up an almost dubstep-voice-in-a-box synth for beginners.

Editors Keys launches Logic/Final Cut/Adobe shortcut keyboard covers for the new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar

editors-keys-macbook-pro-touch-bar-cover

Editors Keys is known for its line-up of custom Apple keyboards/covers for everything from Logic and Final Cut Pro X to the Adobe Creative suite, Pixelmator and even Twitter. The keyboards/covers feature color-coded and specially printed keys to offer up more than 150 shortcuts for power users and beginners alike. Now the company is launching “the world’s first” silicone shortcut keyboard covers for Apple’s new 13 and 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar.

Designed to make users more productive with as many as 250 shortcuts, and of course to not cover the touch-sensitive Touch Bar on the new machines, the covers also protect your new MacBook Pro from dust and spills with a super thin protective layer. The company notes that the skins are cut extremely precisely and provide minimal “physical typing distraction” compared to others.

Logic Pros: Syncing sessions to GarageBand for iOS with iCloud in Logic Pro X 10.3

Site default logo image

send-to-garage-01-2

Last week Apple released Logic Pro X 10.3 with a ton of new features for pros and a refreshed user interface. In today’s Logic Proswe give you the rundown on the update’s new iCloud syncing feature that lets you easily send your session to GarageBand for iOS.

With the new feature, you now have a one-tap method to send a reference of what you’re working on in Logic over to Garageband, allowing you to continue working on it outside of the studio anywhere you might have an iPhone or iPad. Any tracks and edits you make automatically get synced back to Logic for when you return to the studio.

Here’s how it works:
