Apple greenlights TV sci-fi based on ‘Foundation’ book trilogy from ‘Altered Carbon’ producers [U]

UPDATE 8/23: Deadline reports that Apple has officially given this project a 10-episode straight-to-series order.

Apple is reportedly working on yet another TV sci-fi for its growing catalogue of shows as part of an unannounced streaming video service. The show will be based on the Foundation book trilogy written by Isaac Asimov and produced by Skydance Television which is behind the Netflix series “Altered Carbon”.

Apple reportedly targeting March 2019 for original content TV show launch

A nice overview on the state of Apple’s Worldwide Video division was published by the New York Times, including a recap of what we know and a few new tidbits. With 12 projects currently in the works, the paper says Apple is targeting a launch somewhere around the summer of next year, as soon as March 2019.

The original content group comprises about 40 staff spanning adult dramas, children’s TV, Latin America and European content.

Apple adds ‘Are You Sleeping?’ drama based on novel to its upcoming TV lineup

Apple is continuing to green light more shows for production with its billion dollar TV budget for this year. Variety reports that Apple has picked up a new original series called “Are you Sleeping?” based on Kathleen Barber’s novel. The series will star actor Octavia Spencer known for her roles in Hidden Figures and The Help (who is also an alumni of Auburn University like Apple CEO Tim Cook).

Apple reportedly eyeing 85,000-sq-ft space in West LA for original content production

As Apple gets serious about creating quality original content, the company is reportedly eyeing a new production headquarters in West LA to house the effort. Real estate website The Real Deal reported this week that Apple wants to lease an 85,000-square-foot space that happens to be around the corner from its Beats headquarters in Culver City.
