It’s hardly a secret that Apple is negotiating with the National Football League for streaming rights to NFL Sunday Ticket. What seems impossible to know yet is if Apple will actually replace DirecTV as the new home of the valuable pro football package.
Yoel Roth briefly worked alongside Elon Musk as Twitter’s head of trust and safety. Roth resigned for reasons he explains in the New York Times today. In the piece, Roth argues that Apple and Google app stores ultimately govern what Twitter allows on its site. That poses a challenge for Musk and his goal of turning Twitter into a hardcore free speech platform void of moderation.
While Twitter is going through an elongated period of growing pains, the new regime – or at least someone with access to the Twitter Blue FAQ – is brainstorming ways to prevent paid verification abuse.
Since shifting leadership a few years back, Sonos has steadily expanded its connected speaker portfolio to include new categories like portable audio. That’s a pattern we should expect to see continue next year, according to the company. This could mean that Sonos will soon compete with Apple and Beats in the headphone space.
Update: We can confirm that this is indeed a test and not an actual security fix.
Apple has released a software update to iOS 16.2 beta 3 and iPadOS 16.2 beta 3 today that claims to include an important security fix. Details of the problem are not currently available, but the update is marked clearly as a security-specific fix.
It’s also possible that there is no actual security fix. The update could be a test to demonstrate Apple’s Rapid Security Response system. This new feature allows security updates that do not affect the device firmware to optionally be installed automatically.
From Apple Watch Ultra to watchOS 9, this fall has been full of smart watch innovation. Apple isn’t quite finished, however, as there’s still more to come when it comes to new Apple Watch features.
Say what you will about AirTags, but there’s no denying that the tech came in clutch for Rocky from Florida. The six-pound Yorkshire Terrier was lost and on his own in the suburbs of Central Florida for an hour before his owner noticed. Fortunately she had outfitted Rocky’s dog collar with an Apple AirTag before he found himself lost.
Apple has settled privately with the guy who says he thought of AirPods first before they were invented. The declaration was made just as jury selection was set to begin.
Call it a deepfake or a marvel of engineering. Either way, there’s something eery and unnatural about this apparent iPhone that’s somehow been modded to become a working foldable phone.
The Wall Street Journal has an interesting exclusive on how Netflix has been trying to score some points in the wide world of streaming sports, not unlike Apple. So far, we’ve seen Apple stream a full Major League Baseball season of Friday night games, and the company bought a decade of streaming soccer rights, which starts next year. Plus, Apple TV+ already competes with the former DVD rental service on original shows and movies.
The de facto virtual meeting service Zoom is expanding its horizons for 2023. As part of its Zoomtopia (really, that’s the name) conference, the company announced a number of new ways to remotely work online.
Landing AirPods Pro 2 for Christmas might become a whole lot harder soon. That’s because Apple appears to have lost one of its two suppliers responsible for AirPods Pro 2 over a possible production issue.
For reasons unknown, the new Trail Loop band for Apple Watch Ultra arrived in Apple Stores weeks after the Alpine Loop and Ocean band. Stock has become more widely available over the last week, but there’s one version that’s still particularly difficult to track down.
It turns out Apple Watch isn’t only touching lives with features like fall detection and atrial fibrillation alerts. A prescription app called NightWare is helping veterans who suffer from nightmares due to post-traumatic stress disorder. The app uses Apple Watch sensors and haptic feedback to detect and cleverly disrupt nightmares as they happen.
Twitter has been good to me. It’s a direct line to readers, a shared workspace for writers and creators, an audience that gets my snark – it’s also part of my professional origin story. But the bird is hurting, and that hurts to see. I can explain.
Apple is trying a new strategy to promote its latest original movie premiering on Apple TV+ today. For a limited time, subscribers can stream a Jennifer Lawrence film from 2012 as an “Apple TV+ bonus” starting today, alongside the complete collection of The Hunger Games films. Update to this article from 2015 for 2022: This story was originally published a month after the original Apple Pencil was released in 2015. Three years later, Apple redesigned the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. Apple Pencil 2 was less slippery, paired and charged magnetically, and generally just better in every way possible.
Fast-forward from 2018 to 2022, Apple introduced the 10th-gen iPad as an affordable option with the modern design. However, this new iPad bravely enters the market with support for the original Apple Pencil and not the second-gen version. Also it requires a dongle to pair. Anyway, this odd turn of events suddenly makes this tip from seven years ago relevant again. Enjoy this reopened time capsule.
Apple Pencil is a terrific digital stylus that transforms iPad Pro into a highly capable electronic sketch pad and notebook, but it’s dead simple design potentially leaves something to be desired for some users. For example, its cylindrical-shaped symmetrical body lacks a basic pen clip for attaching it to your shirt pocket or elsewhere, which makes it look prettier and simpler but means it easily rolls down inclines and can’t attach to cases or pockets. Apple has weighted it internally to sit in place on a flat surface cleverly with the Apple Pencil marking facing upward, but it’s still no match for a slight slant and where exactly are you supposed to put it?
Apple Watch rescue stories aren’t always life of death situations. Sometimes you just find yourself in a precarious situation and need a little help, which is what happened to an 81-year-old Minnesota man just three weeks after buying his first Apple Watch.
The Mac gains Apple’s Clock app in macOS Ventura, and it’s a surprisingly useful addition. The new app includes proper Mac integration, Siri control, and more.

If you prefer your app recommendations to be served by the highest bidder, then you’re in luck. Apple has enabled Search Ads to appear on the front page and related app pages on the App Store.
iPhone 14 Plus should be a hit product by all accounts. It’s the lowest-priced big screen iPhone that Apple has ever sold, and smartphone buyers love big screens, yet reports have consistently claimed that the new model just isn’t meeting expectations. Citing supplier sources, The Informationis reporting that Apple has called for iPhone 14 Plus production to pause “while its procurement team reevaluates demand for the product.”
