Bradley has worked at K-12 independent schools for much of the last 20 years, serving as the head of the information technology department and leading classroom technology integration. He’s well-versed in enterprise Wi-Fi, macOS and iOS system management, school technology, and SaaS tools.
In this episode of the Apple @ Work podcast, Bradley is joined by Stephen Hackett of Relay FM to talk about how businesses (especially for conferences) could leverage podcasting technology in the future.
Apple started the music playlist idea when it debuted the “Rip, Mix, Burn” campaign 20 years ago. The idea is that you could create your mixes by ripping your CDs to iTunes, making a playlist in iTunes, and then burning it back to a CD. Since then, the idea of the digital music playlist has transformed how the music industry works with everyone from Apple Music to Spotify spending countless resources to create the perfect playlist for every occasion. On the other hand, Apple has made the anti-playlist with Apple Music Radio, and it’s something the music industry needs to lean into going forward.
It’s about that time of year when we start thinking about what Apple will release throughout the year hardware and software-wise, so being in education, I naturally start thinking about what I want to see Apple do with the iPad in 2021. The more I think about it, the more I think Apple’s next act with the iPad has nothing to do with the iPad itself. This week, I want to talk about the need for a low-cost Magic Keyboard.
The Starling Home Hub is one of my favorite technology products in recent memory because it puts you back in control of your technology integrations. I love Nest products, particularly the thermostat, but it has yet to add HomeKit control. Being someone that has built my entire smart home setup around HomeKit, I won’t buy a product that doesn’t work with HomeKit. The Starling Home Hub turns all of your Nest products into HomeKit compatible options. With its new 8.0 firmware, Starling is going even further with a new Developer Connect API.
A few weeks ago, my wife and I put a contract on a plot of land, so we’re looking to build a new house within the next year. Of course, HomeKit will be a significant part of it. I plan to rethink everything about my HomeKit environment for this new house and start from scratch from a software standpoint. Are you building a new home? Follow along with me to gain tips and tricks on creating the HomeKit environment during the home building process. Some of the products will be installed by the builder, but I will install others after moving into the home.
CleanMyMac X is one of my favorite Mac utilities for uninstalling apps I no longer needed, freeing up hard drive space by clearing full caches and general macOS maintenance. Today, they’ve released a great update that adds support for Apple Silicon, a refreshed interface for macOS Big Sur, and the option to remove Intel binaries.

HomeKit Smart plugs are one of the easiest ways to get started with smart home technology as they are usually low cost, easy to install, and work great with the lamps you already have in your home. A recent addition to my smart home environment is the Meross dual smart plug with HomeKit compatibility.

As we continue with our “back to the basics” series of Apple device management, picking the right devices is certainly a major part of the process. This week, I’ll look at the various devices in Apple’s hardware lineup and make recommendations about which ones are ideal for your K-12 and enterprise Apple deployments.
A few years ago, I told a few friends that I wasn’t planning to add security cameras to my house. After Apple announced HomeKit Secure Video (HKSV), my mind began to change. I have never been comfortable with security cameras that use third-party cameras, and my initial belief was repeatedly reinforced. Recently, BuzzFeedreported on an ADT employee accessing cameras inside customers’ homes. I want a video system where that’s not technically possible. With HKSV, we have that system. I now have too many cameras to use HomeKit Secure Video for all of them. It’s time for Apple to add a 10-camera HomeKit Secure Video option to the Apple One Premier bundle.
One of the key new features with the iPhone 12 lineup was MagSafe technology. When it was introduced initially, I was somewhat underwhelmed by it. As time has gone on and more accessories have been released, it’s become one of my favorite aspects of the iPhone 12 mini, though. I recently purchased the Anker PowerWave to use at my desk, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite iPhone accessories in recent years. If you want to use your iPhone 12 as a webcam, read on to see how the PowerWave will help with that.
Spike Email has released a new update to their desktop application that adds some extremely beneficial features. The new features are Outlook-style mentions, canned email responses, and a new iOS document scanner.
Sometime in late 2019, I became increasingly more concerned with personal privacy. I’ve never been the type of person to lean into sharing details with companies when I didn’t need to, but I became aware of the ways I was “leaking” data to companies. One of the easiest things I did to help curtail some of the data I was sharing was changing my default web search to DuckDuckGo, and after a year of using it, I wanted to share some of my thoughts on it.
I’ve been using iCloud Photos since the day it was released, and I love the service and have no plans of leaving it any time soon. I subscribed to Apple One Premier when the Apple One bundles were released, so I am all in on Apple’s services for the foreseeable future. With that being said, I am fanatical about backups of my photo library because it’s the one digital item I cannot repurchase if I lose a copy of it. If you’re looking for a way to export iCloud Photos, read on to learn about a great app that makes it happen with a few clicks.

Last week, I kicked off a ‘Back to the Basics’ series regarding Apple device management in the enterprise and K–12 education. This week, we’re looking at Apple School Manager and Apple Business Manager by understanding what roles they play when it comes to managing your devices.
One of the very first smart home products I purchased for my home was one of Belkin’s Wemo switches. Back before Apple had developed HomeKit, I was already envisioning a smart home. Up until now, there’s only been a single option for an outdoor HomeKit adapter, but late last year, Belkin released a new outdoor Wemo outlet that’s compatible with HomeKit.
The continued pandemic has forced countless businesses to pivot how they offer their services if they generally required face-to-face meetings. Meet is a new app aimed at helping bridge the gap for providers and giving them a way to book paid meetings with clients over a private video chat. With built-in reservations and billing, Meet is useful for fitness sessions, influencers offering paid meetings with fans, or even an accountant offering tax consulting for freelancers.

It’s a new year, so it’s time to put away what was before and start fresh. That applies to our knowledge of Apple’s enterprise and education platforms as well. In January, I am kicking off a new series here on Apple @ Work, getting back to the basics of Apple device management for businesses and schools.
Recently, I did a roundup of the best outdoor HomeKit cameras. I’ve personally been using the Eufy camera system for over a year as I love the picture quality, and I love how easy they are to install. What if you want all the benefits of the Eufy camera system without needing to worry about power? Eufy now has a solution for you with a new Eufy Solar Panel option for continuous charging of your Eufy cameras.

With the Jamf and TRUCE integration, organizations will be able to use located-based device management for iOS devices to offer additional safety and privacy implementations when at work, and the device will return to normal when leaving.

Integrating your cameras into HomeKit is one of the best ways to build up your smart home environment, but which cameras are the best? This week, I will give you all the information about the best HomeKit cameras for securing the outdoors of your home in 2021.
