Canary, maker of smart home security cameras has unveiled a new SOS feature today that works with its iOS app anywhere users have an Internet connection.
Canary is releasing a new version of its iOS app for managing its home security cameras. The new version primarily touts simpler recording controls, and Canary is making its Away mode fully configurable for users as part of the app update.
In the latest version of the Canary app, version 2.14.0, the company will be rolling out a new masking feature that allows users to block certain areas of the Canary’s field of view. This allows for the Canary to ignore motion or activity in certain areas and could be crucial for cameras placed in areas with pets, for example.
Canary has announced that its home security camera system now works with Amazon Alexa devices with screens including Echo Spot and compatible Fire TVs. Alexa support lets you use voice to view live video from connected cameras. While the company is shipping Echo integration, Canary is still not offering a clear roadmap for when Apple HomeKit support may be coming.
Canary has unveiled a more affordable version of its home security camera that launches today. Canary View is priced under $100 and offers many of the same great features as the more expensive Canary All-In-One. Canary also has a new Amazon Alexa skill as well as an upcoming AI-powered security feature to show off.
Canary has announced that it plans to introduce new AI-driven features to its home security cameras early next year. The first new AI-powered feature will be Person Detection, and Canary will offer it to all customers at no extra charge.

The Canary home security cam is a simple and affordable way to monitor activity at home from your iPhone while you’re away, and now you’ll be able to check in from even more places. Canary is updating its software to work with the Apple TV as well as the iPad for the first time.
These products from August, Canary, Withings, Kuna, D-Link, Ring & others will be next to gain support for Apple’s HomeKit in the coming months.

The Canary smart home monitoring system that started with a $100l Indiegogo goal and actually raised almost $2 million, is now available in retail stores for the first time, priced at $259.
Canary is a security camera that learns your living patterns, like when people leave and enter the home, and sends alerts to your iPhone when anything seems out of the ordinary. You can then view and listen remotely to ensure all is well.
Canary is now available in Best Buy, Home Depot and Verizon Wireless, and is also available on Amazon with free shipping. The company plans to make it available in other countries later this year.
The latest build of Chrome Canary for Mac packs a great new feature that’s likely familiar to those who use Safari on a daily basis. While current stable builds of Chrome have a jaggedy pinch-to-zoom functionality that only zooms in 10% increments, the latest build of Chrome Canary provides a smooth buttery zoom experience like Apple’s browser.
As of right now, it looks like the feature works a little bit less fluidly than Apple’s offering, but that’s to expected in the most experimental public release version of Chrome. Zooming works the same way that it does in Safari and current versions of Chrome, so all it takes is pinching two fingers on the Trackpad.
