Why I left Dropbox for iCloud Drive and never looked back

When it comes to file storage for Mac and iOS users, there are multiple options. Today, I want to look at iCloud Drive vs Dropbox.

When I think back to the early days of iPhone and iPad (and even my Mac life around that time), Dropbox was so ingrained into my workflows that I couldn’t ever see it leaving. On the flip-side, I’ve have been using Dot Mac/MobileMe/iCloud since before the iPhone was released. Years ago, Apple’s storage solution for Dot Mac/MobileMe was iDisk, and it was not good. Dropbox came along and made everything else look ancient.

Dropbox has a new ‘Professional’ 1TB plan with Showcase and Smart Sync for $19.99/month

Dropbox is now offering a new ‘Professional’ plan aimed at independent workers like business consultants and creative pros. Dropbox Professional includes 1TB of cloud storage plus new Showcase and Smart Sync features, but they’ll come with a premium.

Dropbox Professional costs $19.99/month which is double the cost of Dropbox Plus which also includes 1TB of cloud storage. So what does $10 more per month get you?

Cloud services compared, or why I’m all-in on Apple but not on iCloud

I’ve been an Apple guy since forever. I bought the very first Macintosh back in 1984. My current mobile technology line-up is a 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, 11-inch MacBook Air (now just a backup Mac), 9.7-inch iPad Pro and an iPhone SE. I’m all-in on Apple, and the ecosystem is a large part of that. Things may not always Just Work, but the Apple ecosystem gets closer to that than anyone else.

Annotate lets you quickly create GIFs and annotated images or capture HD video workflows in a modern native tool. Dropbox also has news for Mac users as the cloud service detailed a new auto-updater for the service coming soon to macOS.
