iOS 15: New features, compatibility, release date

A major new feature quietly introduced today in iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS Monterey is a built-in two factor verification code generator. Like with passwords, you’ll be able connect internet accounts to Apple’s Settings apps. The best part though? Settings will actually autofill two factor codes if it detects you are signing into a registered account.

Apple today has released the first developer beta of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15. The updates are rolling out now through the Apple Developer website where you can find a new configuration profile.

Apple just announced at WWDC 2021 that it is bringing Safari web browser extensions to its mobile devices. With iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, iPhone and iPad will have access to the same web extensions available in Safari for Mac.

We are just a few days away from WWDC 2021. On Monday, Apple will likely unveil iOS 15, iPadOS 15, macOS 12, watchOS 8, and tvOS 15. Apple is developing some major improvements for the iPad home screen as part of the next major operating system, iOS and iPadOS 15, according to a new report by Mark Gurman for Bloomberg.

This will include adding widgets to the iPad’s home screen, just like iOS 14 enabled widgets on the iPhone home screen. The report calls this the biggest change to the iPad home screen ever. iPhone users will benefit from an ‘updated’ lock screen UI.

Now that Apple has confirmed the dates for this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, rumors are sure to start swirling about this year’s software releases. iOS 14 was a major release for the platform, adding things like widgets, the App Library, updates to Messages, a redesigned Siri, and so much more. It was lauded as a key feature update so it would only be natural for iOS 15 to be a smaller update focused on refinements. While brainstorming what made the most sense for an iOS 15 concept, I had to weed out lots of ideas. I chose to focus on small changes to existing apps and features.

As we await Apple’s official announcement of WWDC 2021, Apple’s open-source WebKit code has recently been updated by Apple to include references to the looming iOS 15 and macOS 12 software updates. WebKit code usually refers to future versions as “TBA” to hide their actual version numbers…

A new report today from iPhoneSoft claims to have details on what devices Apple plans to drop support with iOS 15. Notably, the information lines up with a preview report we saw at the end of last year suggesting the iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, original iPhone SE will be on the chopping block.
