iPhone 15 FineWoven cases arrive, customers show Apple’s post-leather material

Apple announced this week that it will no longer sell leather accessories including iPhone 15 cases. The company has a new material in its place that Apple calls FineWoven. Starting today, customers are starting to receive the first FineWoven iPhone 15 cases and share close-up shots including the images above from @tech_instigator.

You can now prepare your payment method in advance of iPhone 15 preorders tomorrow

The Apple Online Store is making it a bit easier to be ready for the new iPhone preorder rush this year.

The iPhone 15 preorders start at 5 AM Pacific Time, but you can get your order ready in advance. On apple.com or through the Apple Store app, you can now choose your desired iPhone 15 model, pre-authorize your payment method, and have the product ready in your bag for one-click ordering once 5 AM rolls around and the store is up.

New Portrait photography feature to adjust subject focus not exclusive to iPhone 15

During the September keynote event, Apple touted a whole bunch of new Portrait mode features for the iPhone 15 series, like automatic capture of Portrait mode shots while using the main shooting mode in the Camera app and the ability to change the subject in focus in the Portrait mode shot after you have taken it.

Well, it turns out that at least some of that stuff is also coming to older phones too. Twitter user Dylan pointed out that on the iOS 17 release candidate build, iPhone 14 Pro users can also refocus their Portrait mode shots after they have been taken.

Last month, Apple discontinued Apple Card financing for iPhones purchased without a carrier connection. Unfortunately, and unsurprisingly, that change applies to the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro.

What this means is that in order to use Apple Card Monthly Installments to buy an iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Pro, you must connect that phone to AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon.

In what is almost certainly Apple’s response to currency fluctuations, the company has introduced iPhone price rises in China and India, and has reduced prices in Europe. Price changes have also been seen in other products, like AirPods.

The price changes do vary between models, however, suggesting that Apple is trying to balance the effect of currency changes with the likely impact on demand …

One of the pre-launch rumors suggested that there would be iPhone 15 RAM increases, at least for the two Pro models. Reliable source Aaron (@aaronp613) and Joe Rossignol say they’ve now been able to confirm this from files present in Xcode.

They found that both the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have 8GB RAM, increased from the 6GB found in the equivalent iPhone 14 models …

Apple today announced that iPhone 15 Pro is powered by a new Apple Silicon chip, which Apple calls ‘A17 Pro’.

A17 Pro is fabricated using an industry-leading 3 nanometer process, housing a total of 19 billion transistors. Apple says the high-performance cores in A17 chip are up to 10% faster, and mean iPhone remains the fastest smartphone in the industry. However, the bigger focus this year is on the GPU performance.

Apple today unveiled the iPhone 15 lineup, which notably replaces the Lightning connector with USB-C. This means customer no longer need proprietary cables to charge their iPhone or transfer data.

USB-C cables are readily available, and are also used by most modern Android phones. However, some Apple customers will be frustrated that they will need to replace their collection of Lightning cables and accessories.

Apple announces iPhone 15: USB-C port, 48-megapixel camera, Dynamic Island, new colors

Apple today announced the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, featuring improved performance, the Dynamic Island previously seen on iPhone 14 Pro, a range of new colors, and a USB-C port replacing the Lightning connector. iPhone 15 stays at the same price as last year, starting at $799.

Like last year, iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus sport 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays. However, Apple said that maximum brightness can now go up to 2000 nits. You can preorder the iPhone 15 this Friday, with the device launching on September 22.
