Indian court orders Apple to cease using ‘Split View’ name as Microsoft vendor claims the trademark

The Delhi High Court has ordered Apple to cease all use of the term ‘Split View‘ within India as a local software company claims to own the trademark for the name ‘SplitView’ (without a space). ET Tech reports that Apple has appealed the ruling, and a final decision is expected in May.

YouTube app updated for iPad Pro; still lacks support for Split View and Picture in Picture

Today Google pushed a long-awaited update to its YouTube app, which adds support for the iPad Pro. As you might imagine, the additional resolution makes the app look much more at home on Apple’s super-sized tablet than before. Unfortunately, outside of a few additional bug fixes, no other big features made the cut for today’s update. In other words, support for key features like Split View, which makes it possible to enjoy true side-by-side multitasking, and Picture and Picture mode are still missing in action.

Adobe Lightroom for iOS updated with 3D Touch, Split View, iPad Pro support, more

Chrome for iPad adds Split View, Slide Over, & Picture in Picture multitasking on iOS 9

Google has updated its Chrome web browser for iPad on iOS 9 to support each of the new operating system’s new multitasking features on the latest models. Chrome (version 46.0.2490.73 to be specific) now supports Split View for running the browser next to other updated apps, Slide Over for referencing it over any app, and Picture in Picture for minimizing videos playing within Chrome to view from other apps including Split View mode. The release notes also highlight “improved handling” for RTL, or right-to-left, languages.

A little later than some expected, Apple has released new versions of the iWork suite of apps for iPhone and iPad with iOS 9 and iPhone 6s features. Overcast 2.0 adds streaming, podcast chapter marks, Split View, more

Overcast 2.0 is out today and adds several nice updates to the popular podcast client. The app now includes streaming, so you don’t have to download episodes to listen to them: just stream the file contents as you go. This comes in handy for people with low-storage phones but also just helps everyone listen to shows faster, without having to wait for a 50-100MB episode to finishing downloading.

Microsoft has updated its Skype for iPhone and iPad apps to add support for two new features in iOS 9: Slide Over and Split View. This follows close behind its update of the Mac app to add Split View in El Capitan.

Just in time for Apple’s official release of OS X El Capitan, Microsoft is out with a new version of Skype with features only available on the new operating system. Available in Skype 7.13 for Mac, the messaging and video chatting app now supports Apple’s new Split View feature for running Skype side-by-side with another full screen app.

Future of iPad: Dual-app viewing mode, then J98/J99 ‘iPad Pros,’ multi-user support

Facing slowing growth for the first time since the iPad’s 2010 debut, Apple is working on several significant software and hardware updates to reinvigorate the tablet over the next year. Apple is developing a dual-app viewing mode, 12-inch iPads codenamed “J98” and “J99,” as well as support for multi-user logins, according to sources briefed on the plans. First planned for debut last year, the split-screen applications feature for the iPad could be introduced as soon as June at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference, while multi-user login support and the 12-inch iPads will apparently arrive later…
