We saw yesterday how Apple may be making it hard for competing smartphone makers to replicate the satellite comms feature of the iPhone 14, and we’re now learning that the same may be true of Apple digital IDs – like state ID cards and driving licenses.

Package delivery and order tracking is one of the new features coming to the Wallet app in iOS 16. This is technically in the betas now, but no merchant partners have released support yet, so it’s essentially unusable. Hopefully, we’ll see something alongside iOS 16’s release in the fall; presumably, the Apple Store app will support it so you can track your new iPhone on your old iPhone.

However, Apple recently published sample payloads as examples in its developer documentation, which gives us our first look at the UI in the action.

Employee badges at Chicago’s Fulton Market District neighborhood 167 Green Street are now Apple Wallet compatible. Instead of having a physical badge, employees only need their iPhone or Apple Watch to access their destination. Sharry, a European PropTech company, and HID Global are responsible for the creation of this integration.

Earlier this year, 9to5Mac discovered that Apple had been working to rebrand iTunes Pass as “Apple Account Card” in the Wallet app with iOS 15.5. Although there was no mention of this feature in the official release notes for iOS 15.5, the Apple Account Card is now live and available to users running the latest version of the operating system.

Two months after officially releasing all iOS 15 features promised during WWDC 2021, Digital IDs are coming to Maryland. With that, iPhone users in the state will be able to add their driver’s licenses to the iPhone’s Wallet.

WeWork is reportedly working on Apple Wallet support for its company Access Cards. This feature was discovered by MacRumors through image assets and hidden code within the WeWork app’s code.

After first announcing support for digital IDs in iOS 15 last year, the first state has gone live with the feature. Arizona residents can officially add their driver’s license or state ID to the Wallet app on iPhone and Apple Watch.

Apple has lobbied with New York State about allowing users to store digital IDs in the Wallet app. Times Union states that Apple met with Gregory Kline, the deputy commissioner for the New York DMV regarding this topic.

After a bank in Peru teased the imminent launch of Apple Pay in the country last week, Apple is now the one saying its own payment service will be launching soon in Argentina and Peru.

In 2020 at WWDC, Apple announced its CarKey feature. With that, drivers can unlock their cars with the U1 chip on selected iPhones and Apple Watches. Unfortunately, this function had a very slow rollout as only selected BMW models have it. Now, a new report indicates this is about to change.

Update: After 9to5Mac published that Interbank Peru was announcing Apple Pay support, the bank removed its videos about the service as well as the page promoting Apple’s own payment system. As of now, only Brazil and Colombia offer the ability to add debit and credit cards to the Apple Wallet in South America.

Apple Pay has had its first expansion in 2022 as Peru is now enabling Apple’s own payment system through Interbank. With that, this is the third South American country to support Apple Pay.

At WWDC in June, Apple unveiled its ambitious plans to allow users in participating states to store their IDs in the Wallet application. This feature was initially slated to launch sometime this year, but it ended up being delayed until 2022. Now, the Transportation Security Administration – or TSA – has announced that it plans to begin accepting digital licenses starting in 2022…

Apple Wallet evolved with iOS 15 to include the ability to store keys for homes and hotels, with upgraded U1 support for the car key standard too. Now it looks like one of the first HomeKit smart locks to feature the NFC Apple home key support could be on the way.

Apple announced last month that it would be delaying support for storing your ID in the Wallet app until 2022. In the meantime, local states and cities in the United States continue to press ahead with legislation efforts needed to allow for digital IDs.

It’s been a couple of years since Apple launched the Express Transit feature for users to pay for public transportation just by taking the iPhone closer to an NFC terminal, without the need for an ID verification.

The function, which has been available for London users for quite some time, is now being promoted inside the Wallet app, even if the user already has the Express Transit feature set.

At WWDC this year, Apple announced its plans to add support for storing ID cards in the Wallet application. New documents obtained by CNBC offer more details on the behind the scenes agreements between Apple and governments in states where it is launching this feature.
