An internal Verizon memo leaked today alleges that the carrier will begin recognizing iPhone XS and XR eSIM activations starting this Friday, December 7.

Dual SIM is one of the big new features for the iPhone XS and iPhone XR and it was technically enabled with iOS 12.1. However, the big US carriers held back on supporting Dual SIM activations due to various reasons.
In an internal memo shared with 9to5Mac, Verizon is telling its employees that it now expects to launch Dual SIM activations for eSIM and physical SIMs in early December.
The major US carriers haven’t rolled out support for Apple’s Dual SIM/eSIM feature with the iPhone XS and XR yet. However, Verizon has today announced its own solution to using multiple numbers with one iPhone or Android smartphone called “My Numbers.”

Since the landfall of Hurricane Michael last week, Verizon has been under scrutiny for its seemingly poor efforts to restore service in the Florida Panhandle. FCC Chairman Ajit Pai and Florida Governor Rick Scott have both slammed Verizon’s response to the disaster, while Scott has praised AT&T’s efforts.
Now, Verizon is responding to those concerns.
After announcing the details for its new 5G home internet service last month, Verizon is now getting the first customers hooked up as it offers a free Apple TV and three months of YouTube TV along with the service.
Verizon today officially announced that its 5G broadband internet service will launch next month. The company says that installations will begin in select cities on October 1st, with service activating immediately after the install is complete.
In an effort to get ahead with 5G, Verizon is looking to include YouTube TV or Apple TV as part of a launch promotion in its initial four markets.

Along with other GSMA members, we have provided information to the government in response to their requests and will continue to work proactively within GSMA, including with those who might disagree with the proposed standards, to move this issue forward.
News has broke this afternoon that the US Department of Justice has opened an investigation over antitrust concerns and potential collusion between Verizon and AT&T in efforts to prevent eSIM adoption and progress. Apple Watch and iPad both use eSIM technology and Apple is reportedly one of multiple manufacturers who has raised concerns with the DOJ.
