Apple has long talked about blurring the line between technology and fashion, especially with the launch of the Apple Watch, and today it partnered with fashion guru Alexander Wang to launch a fashion channel on Apple Music. As reported by Vogue, Wang has partnered with Apple to launch a series of three playlists: Chill, Hype, and Vibe.
It was revealed last week that Apple would be sponsoring the 2016 Met Gala, with Chief Design Officer Jony Ive serving as a co-chair for the event. Now, Ive, along with Vogue editor Anna Wintour, another Gala co-chair, and Costume Institute Curator Andrew Bolton, has sat down with The Wall Street Journal for an interview on Apple’s foray into the fashion industry.
Update, Sept. 19: Vogue originally posted the wrong photos. They’ve now been updated with the correct images shot on iPhone 6s Plus.
Apple’s new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus won’t officially arrive for customers until September 25th, but Apple is giving the upgraded camera on the devices a real world test drive at New York Fashion Week. It appears Apple handed over a few of the unreleased phones to Vogue and they enlisted photographer Kevin Lu to shoot the show entirely with the new iPhone. Expand Expanding Close
Rapper Ludacris tonight has shown off a unique twist on the Apple Watch: a model encrusted with diamonds around the face’s bezel. Ludacris wore the gear to tonight’s Teen Choice Awards on Fox, and he posted a couple of pictures of the device on Instagram. It appears that taking the custom route allowed Ludacris to one-up his colleagues who were able to secure all-gold Apple Watch Editions with gold Link Bracelets from Apple in the run-up to the Apple Music launch. A close up shot of Ludacris’s Apple Watch is below.

Add Express to the list of retailers now taking Apple Pay at checkout. Checks with multiple Express stores across the United States and tips from readers indicate that the fashion and clothing retailer starting accepting the iPhone and Apple Watch payment feature this week. According to Apple’s website, more clothing stores such as Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie will start accepting Apple Pay soon. Earlier this month, grocery store Trader Joe’s started officially taking Apple Pay, while 30 new banks and credit unions started showing their support this morning. We also reported this morning that Tim Cook told employees in China that the company is in talks to bring the mobile payments service to the region.
Precision. That’s the word that immediately came to mind the minute I picked up my Apple Watch for the first time. Something about this device felt different, on an almost subconscious level, from any other Apple product I’ve used before. Perhaps I was just caught up in the moment. After all, the Watch is the first totally new product to come out of Apple since the introduction of the iPad, which feels like so many years ago. On the other hand, I knew from the onset that I planned on buying the Apple Watch mostly for its design. I wasn’t so much interested in all of the software features it could offer me, I just couldn’t imagine not having this shiny little box on my wrist. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at the Apple Watch strictly as a design piece.
The job of Apple Retail Store employees will begin changing in profound ways next month. In order to showcase and sell the Apple Watch, retail employees will be trained to provide personal fashion and styling advice to customers, according to employees briefed on the plans. Until now, Apple Retail has been tasked with recommending iPads, iPhones and Macs with few styling options aside from limited color options.
Apple is pushing for retail employees to initiate conversations that build trust, enabling the employee to serve as a valued fashion advisor during the purchase process, similarly to how traditional watches are sold. Apple Watch sales training programs will take place for Apple retail staff over the course of the next two weeks, teaching entirely new sales techniques to encourage iPhone upgrades, assist with gifting, and guide customers in watch and strap choices.
Below, we detail how employees will provide fashion advice to customers and Apple’s multi-part plan for selling an Apple Watch.
