There was much talk about an iPhone 12 supercycle – a year in which dramatically more people than usual upgrade to the latest models. Apple’s adoption of 5G was said to be the likely driver of the extra sales, and one firm of analysts says that this is happening on an almost unprecedented scale.

The last true supercycle was in 2014, when Apple finally moved to larger displays, tapping into strong pent-up demand. The big question was whether sales of the iPhone 12 could match the pre-launch hype, and Wedbush believes that the answer is yes…

Strong iPhone 12 demand has led Apple to boost iPhone production plans for 2021 by between 20% and 30%, according to a Nikkei report today.

Nearly all of Apple’s MagSafe accessories for iPhone 12 provide a decent amount of value. But one of them has so much underutilized potential coupled with an astronomical price tag. Of course, I’m talking about Apple’s new MagSafe Sleeve.

Apple has been making really high-quality leather sleeves for various products for a couple of years now but the MagSafe Leather Sleeve is unique. Not only does the MagSafe Sleeve include a card slot, it also has a window that displays the clock and occasionally pertinent information. Unfortunately, Apple hasn’t taken full advantage of what it’s created.

Apple’s MagSafe wallets for the iPhone 12 are pretty pricy at $50, and have also taken a while to be delivered (mine, ordered on day one, is only arriving today). There aren’t yet many third-party MagSafe wallets, but there’s interesting one for $30 which includes a built-in kickstand.

When it comes to judging the quality of smartphone cameras, the MKBHD blind camera test is one of the most compelling pieces of consumer research out there.

YouTuber Marques Brownlee takes the same photos with a bunch of different cameras, and labels each photo with a letter, so no one knows which smartphone took which photo. He then asks ordinary people to state which they prefer.

Every year, the popular YouTuber Marques Brownlee — better known as MKBHD — shares his own blind smartphone camera test based on the choice of his followers on the web. MKBHD has just posted his 2020 blind camera test and surprisingly, iPhone 12 Pro Max lost to OnePlus 8T in the first round.

The iPhone 12 lineup brings a host of new features beyond the design change and one in particular that can reduce battery life is 5G support. However, a growing number of users are finding their iPhone 12 battery draining quickly on standby, even when on Wi-Fi or with 5G turned off.

The iPhone 12 lineup has been in the wild for a little over a month and is the first generation of Apple’s smartphones to come with 5G support. But there seems to be a notable issue with the iPhone 12 dropping service unexpectedly (both 5G and LTE) and users are seeing it happen most when driving or traveling.

Apple rates the iPhone 12 as able to withstand up to 6 meters of water for 30 minutes, and a new video from CNET puts that claim to the test with a pair of experiments. One tests Apple’s claim of 19.6 feet of water for 30 minutes and another to see if the iPhone 12 could beat that claim at 65 feet of water.

Swedish networking giant Ericsson has reported that the 5G rollout is progressing faster than expected and that around a billion people worldwide will have coverage by the end of this year.

The report says this makes 5G rollout faster than both 3G and 4G/LTE …
